Using an actual 8-millimeter handgun without ammunition, he went on to show how to unload the magazine and pack it in the case.

Ammo is not supposed to be in magazines. It can either be in the original packaging or in a box designed to hold ammo. They even jack up law enforcement officers over this if they check ammo.

You can’t take a gun on board as a carry on. Don’t know what he is talking about. Great way to end up in jail.

When I’m a member of a flight crew I carry my weapon with me.

“”On the flights that I personally do, it’s in the overhead.””

Now that I’ve fulfilled my oath to check all replies before posting my own, I was also confused over his statement... “Personally do” means what? And overhead? Not likely! Guess now I’ll go back and ask the actual poster. We can all get clued in at the same time.

“”When I’m a member of a flight crew I carry my weapon with me.””

Well, golly gee whiz - you could have said that up front. That clears up why you are boarding with a weapon but what overhead are you talking about?

Not according to TSA.

- Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be securely boxed or included within a hard-sided case containing an unloaded firearm. Read the requirements governing the transport of ammunition in checked baggage as defined by 49 CFR 175.10 (a)(8).

- Small arms ammunition, including ammunition not exceeding .75 caliber and shotgun shells of any gauge, may be carried in the same hard-sided case as the firearm.

I had one 15-round magazine loaded and in the hard-sided Glock case with my 9mm.

Pays to check FR profiles. You’re not a commercial pilot flying for a commercial airline so you’re talking about flying business or charter or whatever flights. Got ‘cha.

Great photos on your profile page except for the BAT!!!!!!

We’re planning another trip from NC to OH this summer.
Va used the have CCW laws pretty much identical to NC.
However Gov. Terry McAuliffe passed some very stringent requirements that cut out many reciprocity States, NC included.
There was a movement to restore reciprocity with those States.
Not sure it it has been done. Hope so.

Overhead, another name for stow bins. Except mine is in my flight case (or carry-on) and have a license for it. It stays on the A/C when in those liberal gun hating states.

If it was me, I would just detour around Virginia.
That is exactly what I do with Illinois when I go to Ohio from Arizona. An extra 100 mils but, I do not have to worry about have my gun(s) “appropriated” or ending up in court or worse. As an added bonus, I feel good, very good NOT spending money in Illinois.

The wife & I are doing a 3-4 week road trip out west this fall. With one exception we are only going through states that honor our CCDW.

The exception is New Mexico. But for several reasons I do not consider that to be an issue after doing my research on NM firearms laws, which are pretty good. NM is only reciprocal with states that require a fingerprint check as part of the background check.

However, one’s car is considered private property and I am allowed to conceal in the car without a permit. In addition, it is also open carry for non residents as well as NM residents. While I am not an advocate of open carry in general, at least I know that if I feel it is justified while we are there, I will be able to do it.

I keep saying “I”, should be “we”. The Mrs. also carries.

Enjoy your tour. Beautiful country to be seen. Well, all of the U.S. has beautiful spots to see. Did you check to see if you must declare a weapon in the vehicle in any of the states just in case you get stopped. Might not be a bad idea.
