Former Kansas senator and 1996 Republican nominee Bob Dole endorsed Donald Trump for president on Friday, calling for the GOP to unite around Trump in order to defeat Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee.
Dole's support gives the GOP presumptive nominee the support of another party elder on a day when other top Republicans announced their opposition. Trump inconspicuously announced the endorsement earlier on Friday at a rally in Omaha, Nebraska, as he ticked off the names of several prominent Republicans who have come around to his candidacy since he became the party's presumptive nominee earlier this week.

I’m glad to see this.
It was very disappointing to hear that the Bush family isn’t going to support.
I know the Bush folks haven’t gone down well with a lot of Freepers, but I had a lot of respect for George W when he became president, and as he handled 9-11. I thought he was a good, solid president for his time, and he and his wife brought back some pride in the White House for us Washingtonians, after the sleaze years of the Clintons.
It seems very small to me, that they aren’t going to attend or support, if Trump is the nominated candidate. I expected better.

Dole is a patriot.
Maybe Bob figured out that nearly everything in his career has been at the behest of the Republican Party, and he decided to pay his dues.
Trump might consider letting Bob Dole address the conventions; without the Bushes there, he might tell us a thing or two.
This is probably the first time Donald Trump has been on the dole.
If there’s anything Bob Dole knows, it’s a presidential nominee with the moxie to win it all - a man like Bob Dole. Bob Dole knows how to take on the Clintons, particularly when they are mired in scandal. This Bob Dole knows. Why, Bob Dole knows how to run for Vice President too and Obamacare is not covering the cost of his blue pills. Bob Dole needs a job.
Read Bob Dole’s book. You might think differently. He DID wear the uniform.

The only true war hero among living nominees shows why he is a man of honor. Thank you, 2nd Lieutenant Dole of the 10th Mountain Division, who nearly died in Italy from German machine gun fire, fighting for his nation.
I’m surprised as well. Based on some of his (horrendous) comments in the past and my suspicion he is going senile, I would have assumed Dole would be on the same page as the Bushes and Romney.
Good for him. I’m not a big fan of Trump but support the nominee and DEFEAT HILLARY CLINTON is my position.
It’s very very strange, some RINOS are saying Never Trump, some RINOS are supporting the nominee, some conservatives are sticking with Never Trump, others are supporting the nominee. Not easily to predict, I guess.
