When a devastating earthquake leveled Haiti in 2010, millions of people donated to the American Red Cross. The charity raised almost half a billion dollars. It was one of its most successful fundraising efforts ever.
The American Red Cross vowed to help Haitians rebuild, but after five years the Red Cross' legacy in Haiti is not new roads, or schools, or hundreds of new homes. It's difficult to know where all the money went.
I recall Red Cross doing the same thing with the tons of cash they received after 9/11. They decided to use it to upgrade their lavish facilities. Vowed never to donate to them again after that one. I’ll stick with Salvation Army.
I agree.

Bingo! The same hoes for any fund raisers for relief efforts. How may Billions of dollars have been raised for the poor, feed the children,
________ (fill in the blank) Africa, etc.
These relief efforts are a billions dollar “business” and should be regulated with 100% full disclosure and transparency!
How much missing from State Department. Add em up !
Just one of the reasons I refused to contribute to Red Cross or any organization affiliated with them during our recent Houston area floods. Plenty of other groups where I know money is being spent to directly help people who really need it.
All my disaster relief giving goes to Samaritan’s Purse.
Well, there are those pesty overhead costs....
To heck with the Red Cross.
Donate to the Salvation Army. 90%+ of your contributions will make it to intended recipients.
And that’s just the Red Cross.
There’s over $10 BILLION in donations that have never been put to use to rebuild Haiti.
Yep. Check the offshore secret accounts of the Clinton Foundation (aka “The Human Fund”).
A neighbor told me that he saw on the news where there were thousands of relief agencies in Haiti well before the earthquake.
I’ll betcha some of the dead bankers knew all about this.
And don’t forget many raise money for “awareness”, with contributors not realizing that’s little more than paying for advertising, not actually DOING anything about the problem. (Yes, we’re all aware that breast cancer is a problem, we don’t need more awareness, we need a cure.)
“Last time I ever gave the Red Cross sh!t.”
The only charity I give to is the Salvation Army. It’s the only one where the leadership isn’t getting high six-figure salaries and 90% or more of the money they raise actuially goes to help people.
I wholeheartedly agree.
I checked on this title "Chief Information Officer" for the Canadian Red Cross. Grade one $105 thousand dollars. Grade two. $160 thousand dollars. I got caught for twenty dollars monthly last year. The Red Cross shipped a group of young females from Toronto and they went door to door. Locally, the consensus in my Ontario city is only the "Sally Ann" - Salvation Army gives out a detailed and worthy accounting of donations.
Haiti happens to be a prime example of the bureaucrat in charge. Nothing one can really do. No conscience, no shame.
Let's cut the crap. Haiti is a "developing country" like one of the Walking Dead is "getting better." Poor Haiti has been and probably will always be a doomed pest hole like most of the Third World.
The Clintons raised over $175 million from their Haiti relief effort and kept all but about $5-8 million of it.
