Hillary Clinton is walking into Donald Trump’s trap
WaPo ^ | 5 May 2016 | Danielle Allen

Donald Trump has set a big, fat trap for Hillary Clinton, and so far she has stepped right into it. He turned his attacks against women against her. She is, he argued, playing the “woman card.” And Clinton anted up, offering her supporters the chance to buy a “woman card.” From now until Nov. 8, Trump will surely continue to insult women. If Clinton routinely responds to those attacks, Trump will turn her into the “women’s candidate,” and she will lose. She is already perilously close to being that candidate.

Let’s be honest. Polling shows that Trump has a problem with women, but it also shows that Clinton has a problem with men. Thanks to Bernie Sanders’s pushing and prodding over the course of the primary, Clinton’s vision has expanded, but we all know its core: She is a battle-tested warrior for women and children.

Consider her slogan, “Fighting for us.” For many men, this slogan would have to be experienced as emasculating. A woman fighting for them? Rightly or wrongly, the slogan rubs the wrong way in relation to traditional notions of masculinity. Her slogan itself reveals a limited conception of who she seeks to represent. This is a potentially fatal flaw in Clinton’s campaign. The more that Clinton takes Trump’s bait around the issue of his denigration of women, the more powerfully this flaw in her own campaign will show itself.

Clinton needs to fix this problem, and fast. And she needs to avoid taking Trump’s bait.

here are important lessons to be learned from the many Republican candidates who rose to the bait and were decimated by Trump’s rhetoric. His monikers for them consistently had two effects: They pushed his foes off message and also forced them to fight on turf that Trump chose for them.

Any criticism or anything not explicitly praising women's supposed superiority in all things is, in this PC world, being unfairly and maliciously critical of "women."

HER problem with women is that many women prefer a masculine male of the once traditional variety to the wimps that the Republicans have put up for so long.If the Republicans wont defent women and children then the women will vote for a feminist In ostensibly supporting the genetically determined relationships the Trump is supporting those women who are not attempting to edit their DNA.

Polls are now showing that Trump is gaining against Hillary with women.

No single person on this Earth can give credibility to Hillary, IMO.

After all the ridiculous push-polling and outright making things up during the primaries, the polls are demonstrably worthless. It’s apparent they can be cooked to show ANY result the client wants to pay for.

Soros has the necessary resources or controls the necessary resources to do it. Mrs. Bill can have a rally with 109 less than enthusiastic supporters and 10 or 20 thousand wildly cheering professionals if Soros deems that advantageous.

Trump is like a rhetorical Muhammad Ali. Let’s see if he can get her coughing in a debate!

Unfortunately, you are right. But she will chase away a lot of potential voters. She is that unlikable.

Trump still has to win so overwhelmingly that Soros et al deem it unwise to declare the election to have been won by the Democrat. Soros really can determine the vote count for two major states and 9 others and Et El i.e. the Democrats, can add enough to the actual number of people voting -illegals, multiple voters, newly encitizenated immigrants strategically placed, deceased voters, etc. to make a win out of a 10% or larger actual legitimate loss.

Trump has survived 16 opponents, and now he has the slow, lumbering, easy to hit target named Hillary Clinton. Be afraid Hillary, be very afraid, you have entered Trump’s kill zone.

I’m hoping Obozo’s hate for the Clintons trumps his party solidarity.

That would give us a Biden/Warren last minute candidacy and a huge effort by Soros and the vote fraud machine and a probably Democrat "victory."

She is not terribly round faced, but not that narrow of visage, either.

Joe Biden is another target rich opportunity, not as corrupt as the Clintons to be sure, but a lot more stupid than either one of them. The main reason Obama chose him as Vice President was to hold the white Catholic vote in his native Northeast. Secondarily, Biden’s shortcomings protected Obama from possible impeachment proceedings if it ever came to that, which it didn’t, due to Republican spinelessness.

The election is far, far from being won. The Dem elites and their Republican toadies have already brought the country to the edge of ruin with what they’ve done so far. To think they will just fold up is naive, and I know you’re expressing exactly that.

For the moment, Trump should IMO just let some smoke clear, gather his wits and take a brief time out.

[Just put in my 2cents before I read the whole 56 comments]

I don't know who Danielle Allen is, but the author is clearly not big league. Her suggestion for Hillary Clinton to fight back is to copy Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" into "Make America Fair Again". (clearly already ceding grounds to The Donald.)

(excerpt) Can we be great without being fair? No we cannot.

Do women want fairness? Yes. Do men want fairness? Yes. Do African American, Latino and Muslim Americans want fairness? Yes. Do white Americans want fairness? Yes. Do religious Americans want fairness? Yes. Do gay, lesbian and transgender Americans want fairness? Yes.

She even had Hillary Fight Song down pat. (Imagine that, America The Beautiful)

The problem is you don't really need to elaborate "Make America Great Again". Simplistic as it sounds. But you have to make elaborate and convoluted explanation of 'How' To Make America Fair.

Fair to whom? To all Americans. But How? ...... and there's the problem.
