Cruz, ending GOP bid, says 'we left it all on the field'

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, abruptly suspending his Republican presidential campaign Tuesday night after another crushing primary defeat to Donald Trump, assured emotional supporters in Indiana that they helped grow an “extraordinary” movement – declaring his team “left it all on the field” in their final push.

ADVERTISEMENT "It appears that path [to victory] has been foreclosed," Cruz told supporters in Indianapolis. "Together, we left it all on the field of Indiana. We gave it everything we've got, but the voters chose another path, and so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign."

The underdog candidate, who all along had vowed to force Trump into a contested convention in July, stunned supporters by dropping out following a big loss in Indiana. Some people in the crowd could be seen crying and hugging each other.

But Cruz indicated he has no plans to fade away.

“I am not suspending our fight for liberty,” Cruz said.

Agreed. But Ted and Heidi decided they should be used as props for their campaign. Wrong decision.

“Bla bla bla c-ya lyin’ loser. No one will forget the nasty person you are who lacks character.”

I really get the feeling Trumpsters WANT to lose in November. They also need to look into a mirror.

I’m a Never Hillary kind of guy, but Trump sycophants seemed determined to drive non-sycophants away. Why the nastiness and vitriol? It will be hard enough for many of us Cruz supporters to overlook Trump’s claim that Ted’s dad helped killed JFK without Trump worshipers branding non-believers as heretics.

Do Trump supporters ever do anything but hate?

That is just plain wrong.

The Cruz daughters are both adorable and always appeared well dressed with pretty matching bows in their hair. And they were well behaved for little people of that age. What is a candidate supposed to do -hire model actor kids to traipse after them while they campaign?

If the girls hadn’t joined their dad and mom, they would not have seen much of their parents the past nine months. I applaud both little ladies, they did just fine.

Lyin’ Ted’s “heartfelt” speech was read from teleprompters.

Really? Trump won and you're still trying to alienate Cruz supporters? It's about time that those of us who voted for Trump (as I did a week ago today) acted like adults.

This is not a difficult concept: Personal insults directed at Cruz or at his voters do not make it more likely for the 30% of republican voters who preferred Cruz to vote Trump in November. That conduct makes it more likely for Hillary to win. Please give it some thought and start acting like a gracious winner - even if it's an act.

Perhaps he is more suited to be on the Canadian Supreme Court. Don’t think Cuba has one.

DJT did not make that connection that you just did. This morning on TV, DJT said he pointed out the photo published by NE and several other media outlets. The campaign against TC was still very much ON and TC's father was fervently casting many very public aspersions against Trump personally while representing the Cruz campaign.

IOW, Trump did not do what you allege.

>Those are the two most un-appealing children of a candidate that I can remember seeing. Why did Cruz think it was a good idea to parade them?

Uh, what? They’ve had to endure being props on Cruz campaign for months. Ted’s home so rarely that they don’t call him Dad rather they call him the guest. Don’t blame the kids for Ted’s neglect and their dislike of him.

Left it all on the field? Wrong! Campaign managers took over and they’re only tactic was “Trump is bad”. Cruz had so much more to offer. He has stood up for the constitution and for conservative principles. Had he kept to that topic, he’d have done much better. But when the campaign started focusing on Trump instead of Cruz, the wheels came off.

Time now for Cruz to swallow his pride and back the Trump candidacy. Another Clinton presidency is NOT and option.

Congratulate Trump, why would he? Trump just tried to tie him to the JFK assassination, for cripes sakes.

They just don’t get it and don’t think they ever will. 30% Trump must go back and recapture and heal if he has any chance against cankles. I’ll be voting for him. To continue posting him to these boards does nothing but further divide.

I think what this ilk hasn’t comprehended is Cruz supporters don’t need Trump supporters. However Trump supporters MUST have Cruz supporters. If Trump does not pull them to his side it is 100% guaranteed he loses and there is no debating that fact.

I pray this contingent wakes up

>The assertion that “Lyin” Ted Cruz is among the first that are better discarded, as there never was much basis for that accusation. In the heat of sharp debate, many extraneous and meaningless charges are hurled, which no doubt come from the heart, but have no source or rationalization. Is Ted Cruz a liar? No more than a goodly portion of all other humanity, and certainly not to the degree of being “pathological”. Some small things he may have remembered wrongly, or explained in an effort to paint himself in a somewhat better light, but what person has not been guilty of that at one time or another?

Lets not re-fight this fight.

Exactly. Insults at Cruz (and his family--an especially low blow) just make the insulters look like cretins, and it further alienates those who preferred Cruz.

Why on earth do Trump supporters, when hearing criticisms of Trump, instantly (and as reflexively as dog-drool from a Pavlovian experiment) retort with something like "You're just upset that your guy lost!"...? Is that really the only possible basis for criticizing Trump? That he's "not Ted Cruz"? That's insanity.

Trump has lots of flaws. We need to deal with them, not whitewash them.

The truth of the matter is, there is no basis for criticizing Trump

“DJT did not make that connection that you just did.”

“His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald’s being — you know, shot. I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous,” Mr Trump said on Tuesday. “I mean, what was he doing — what was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death? Before the shooting?”
