Cruz, ending GOP bid, says 'we left it all on the field'

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, abruptly suspending his Republican presidential campaign Tuesday night after another crushing primary defeat to Donald Trump, assured emotional supporters in Indiana that they helped grow an “extraordinary” movement – declaring his team “left it all on the field” in their final push.

ADVERTISEMENT "It appears that path [to victory] has been foreclosed," Cruz told supporters in Indianapolis. "Together, we left it all on the field of Indiana. We gave it everything we've got, but the voters chose another path, and so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign."

The underdog candidate, who all along had vowed to force Trump into a contested convention in July, stunned supporters by dropping out following a big loss in Indiana. Some people in the crowd could be seen crying and hugging each other.

But Cruz indicated he has no plans to fade away.

“I am not suspending our fight for liberty,” Cruz said.

You didn’t hear him mention the GOP either...whatever he was talking about Trump and the GOP were not part of it.

Lyin’ Ted’s “heartfelt” speech was read from teleprompters.

Oh please.

Let it go. Most of us who supported Cruz are getting in line behind Trump. Winners can afford to be gracious.

Yes I agree. When speculating about what he would do before his announcement I said to my wife the best thing he can do now is to quit the run. If he continues he will destroy any future he has. In his speech I thought he would be a tad more open to the idea of having a unified party so that part was missing from what I hoped for. At least he did not go out looking completely unhinged like Gay Sick will.

As far as going forward, whether Trump wins or loses the election, this is a broken party. I don’t see any agreement between the rightside conservatives and the moderates. In the past when the moderates won, they convinced the rightside to go along with them, most did. That has been broken now beyond repair IMO as both the rightside conservatives and moderates are not happy. We recognize the GOP has not been a true conservative party for many years yet in the landscape controlled by two parties it is the better. The last real conservatives won in the 20’s.

Sorry man, but that’s disgusting. You’re showing lots of class making fun of little kid’s looks,

Not referring to their beautiful Heidi-bred looks; am referring to their un-tamed behavior and lack of discipline, revealing some degree of poor judgement on the part of their parents who brought them into the world.

Sour grapes....poor loser.....that’ll go over big in Texas.

Cruz now has a massive fight on his hands to retain his Senate seat.

Texans have prolly had it w/ this guy.

I hope they primary his pasty white @$$. I simply cannot stand this phony SOB. If I hear that slimy snake-oil salesman voice of his again, it'll be too soon

Phony, slimy, snake-oil-selling SOBs make up most of Congress so he fits right in. He'll be re-elected, and depending on what happens in the fall could be back in 2020.

Trump was a horse’s ass and will continue to be.

Guaranteed, it's gotten him more than a few votes. People are tired of lapdog pussy politicians. Trump's non-PC language is refreshing to many. Giddyup.

Agreed. If the Ted Cruz making the concession speech last night had been the one on the campaign trail for the last four to six weeks, he might have still been in the race.

“He’s needs to be on the Supreme Court.”

I am not so sure that is a good idea. Remember he has “interpreted” natural born to be born outside the USA to a foriegn father. And he would be doing alot of “interpretation” as a supreme court justice.

Sorry but I just cannot get in board with that thought.

The first of many hurtful things that were said of Ted Cruz ought to be admitted to in and of themselves to bear little resemblance to truth.

The assertion that “Lyin” Ted Cruz is among the first that are better discarded, as there never was much basis for that accusation. In the heat of sharp debate, many extraneous and meaningless charges are hurled, which no doubt come from the heart, but have no source or rationalization. Is Ted Cruz a liar? No more than a goodly portion of all other humanity, and certainly not to the degree of being “pathological”. Some small things he may have remembered wrongly, or explained in an effort to paint himself in a somewhat better light, but what person has not been guilty of that at one time or another?

Essentially, Ted Cruz embodies all the better parts of human nature, not the least of which a point of view that supports the more classic vision of “conservative”, a word bantered about much recently, to the degree its meaning is badly diluted. Limited government, fiscal responsibility and good stewardship of power entrusted, then relinquished when it is time for the new younger generation to step in their turn, with the same admonitions to be trustworthy stewards, and not to pervert and rape the system.

That other persons who style themselves to be “Americans” do not or will not recognize these attributes in Ted Cruz is an indictment of how little America means to them. “Americans in name only”, only bearing that title because of accident of birth, and not by conviction, have become one of the serious problems of the times. Bit by bit it has become, first, of less and less consequence and finally some sort of perverse virtue, fashionable to point and mock and deny all the set of American ideals that stand behind the flag and the pledge of allegiance to that flag.

Shame on those who spit upon the flag, and those who spit upon Tex Cruz and the set of principles for which he stands. Senator Cruz is perhaps a much more ethical person than some few have made him out to be.

“I didn’t hear him once congratulate Trump. Maybe I missed it.”

You didn’t miss it. He went out the same way he came in - a pontificating, sanctimonious, self-obsessed jerk.

There is still a full-term Governor running. Trump would make a big mistake if he considers any Governors as running mate, except for those that had the good sense to step down before they got completely sucked in.

Not OUR Supreme Court, he lacks the temperament and he lies constantly.

Plus he’d never be confirmed.

Did he mention Trump at all? I mean at all? I thought Trump went overboard in praising him.

Trump is a fighter, the likes we’ve never seen here in this country for a long long time. He is an American with the AMerican genes.

The people who fault his tone, are the people who will sell us out in a fight. Does anyone honestly believe that Elizabeth Warren and Hillary Clinton will protect us?

I make no apologies for Trump. Fact is we need a strong leader, not the same mush.

All that you posted may be accurate but perhaps if you re-read TC’s comments Monday regarding Donald Trump personally, you may wish to tone down your post.

SOMETHING is not right in the head with Ted.

Can you imagine what hell it was for those 2 little girls to be trapped in a campaign bus for months? No wonder they misbehave. Abusive. Even Obama didn’t do that to his girls and he is crap. Cruz didn’t appear to think of it from their perspective.
