Cruz, ending GOP bid, says 'we left it all on the field'

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, abruptly suspending his Republican presidential campaign Tuesday night after another crushing primary defeat to Donald Trump, assured emotional supporters in Indiana that they helped grow an “extraordinary” movement – declaring his team “left it all on the field” in their final push.

ADVERTISEMENT "It appears that path [to victory] has been foreclosed," Cruz told supporters in Indianapolis. "Together, we left it all on the field of Indiana. We gave it everything we've got, but the voters chose another path, and so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign."

The underdog candidate, who all along had vowed to force Trump into a contested convention in July, stunned supporters by dropping out following a big loss in Indiana. Some people in the crowd could be seen crying and hugging each other.

But Cruz indicated he has no plans to fade away.

“I am not suspending our fight for liberty,” Cruz said.

I can’t think of anything less appealing than attacking young children, simply because you don’t like their parents political views.

Is this what the FR website has come to?

Shame!

Do Trump supporters ever do anything but hate?

There are some, dare I say many who were and are quite gracious given Trump's win.

There are some Cruz supporters that were just as vitriolic as some Trump supporters. So let's not kid ourselves.

I'm a Cruz supporter (by default now a Trump supporter) anyone can see by my posting history though that I've been a Cruz supporter so I'm not apologizing for anyone but myself. I've been vitriolic on occasion.

It's time to move past the grudges held by both sides and unite under the Trump banner. I don't like it much, speaking for myself but Trump did give a very gracious speech last night to his credit. I wouldn't have blamed him at all if he didn't mention Cruz in the speech, after what Cruz said about him yesterday, but he did and didn't act like a jerk doing it (for once). Maybe he's turning a corner. Hopefully not to the left like Whorealdo was urging him last night on Fox but we'll see.

It's time to give him a fair shot and not hold him to the asinine behavior of some of his supporters. If he stays the course and stays the same man he has been in the primary (allotting for token shifts to the center which have to be done in the general) than no conservative should have any problem voting for him at all. He certainly looks better on paper than Romney or McCain did at this point in their campaigns.

I thought Ted did a great speech last night. I can understand the disappointment but I still think congratulating trump would have been great. Cruz isn’t ready yet. I think he will support trump eventually.

>>Limited government, fiscal responsibility and good stewardship of power entrusted, then relinquished when it is time for the new younger generation to step in their turn, with the same admonitions to be trustworthy stewards, and not to pervert and rape the system.

All of our conservative values are meaningless as long as the politicians keep enabling the globalists to “rape the system”. Where was Ted’s “jobs” speech? What was his plan for the coal miner with a high school diploma and kids? What was his plan for the factory worker in a small town whose one big factory just moved to Mexico?

You probably say that they should get a degree, move to another state, open their own business. It’s the “conservative way”, but in a nation where it costs $500 just to get the power turned on for a person with bad credit, it’s hard to find those legendary boot straps anymore. Trump beat Mr Conservative Values on one thing: he talked about things that matter to blue collar America.

Guess what. The blue collar work ethic is the mortar that conservative ideals are built with. The globalists took that away and called it Free Trade. They took away the paycheck and insured that politicians replace it with handouts. They took away our nation’s security and replaced it with record stock market numbers.

Mr Conservative Values did not address that. In fact he celebrated that as something that helps America grow (but only for a select few). He is more Mr Harvard Values than Mr Conservative Values. So, shame on you.

Ted is so bright he failed to realize he is Canadian and ineligible to run, sure.

Now, try explaining the rest about Rafael.

There was no attack on children made by me. There is no shame here either.

Care to understand? Read ALL my posted responses today. THEN get back to me.

(Post 11 was tongue-in-cheek about a possible Carly Fiorina method of paying back her half-million dollar loan to the Cruz PAC, not about Heidi Cruz' beautiful, well-dressed, poorly-behaving-in-public young daughters.)

You've both misunderstood my post 11's meaning and have mischaracterized what I posted and what I meant, as have other lazy readers today.

Your words. “Those are the two most un-appealing children of a candidate that I can remember seeing.”

You see I did read all of your original screed and all your attempts to backtrack and pretend that you didn’t attack the children. That sentence has nothing to do with Ted or Carly; it is merely a part of your nasty personality.

You are a liar because you deny you said what you said.

You are a coward because you won’t own up to your words.

And finally, you are someone so filled with vitriol toward a patriotic conservative that you will even attack their children.

Again, I call shame!

The truth of the matter is, there is no basis for criticizing Trump

(!!) Are you kidding me and/or being sarcastic? Because if you're not, then you're going to have to explain that one to me...

I hear ya. What was posted as an observation, you take as an insult.

Ah, yes... the famous and vacuous excuse of: "I just call 'em as I see 'em! Sorry if that upsets anyone!" Reasonable people also take into consideration the CONTENT of what they say, above and beyond the raw fact that they actually SAID it.

Using your reasoning, one could post any insult... er, excuse me... "negative observation"... no matter how egregious, and claim a complete lack of insult, because...

...well... because you were the one who said it...?

(?)

Odd stuff which passes for logic, these days.

That's on you.

Um. Sure. Whatever you say, pal.

Show me where I am wrong.

And don’t start on the Cruz’s being bad parents because their children did cartwheels on a stage.

The only bad parenting I can see is that your parents never taught you any manners about publicly stigmatizing very young children.

Time for you to STFU.

What was it the Trump supporter said to Cruz. “Get out of here no one wants you! Indiana doesn’t want you!”

Now that Cruz has dropped out of the race, the tune has changed. Now the narrative sounds something like this. “Boy, your candidate put up a good fight. By the way you are going to support Trump aren’t you? We “really really” need your vote. I mean Cruz was a good opponent and all, so you will support Trump, right?”

Interesting list!

Given the times when he came to the US, I wonder what sort of things the official file on the elder Cruz is full of.

Makes me wonder, did we dodge a bullet of some kind when the anointing oil didn't pour and Cruz lost his bid for the presidency?

Do you know anyone with a Dad like that or anyone with a family history like that?

I've lived in a lot of places and met some unusual folks and I don't.

Cruz left his followers on the field.
He should have told them to pick up the flag and continue the fight.

Real conservatives are watching and this is not a way to get their support in November.
