A U.S. Navy SEAL killed by Islamic State militants during an "extremely heavy, extremely intense" firefight with U.S. forces and Kurdish Peshmerga troops in northern Iraq Tuesday was identified Tuesday evening by Arizona's governor.
He was identified Tuesday evening by Gov. Doug Ducey as Charlie Keating IV.
Ducey ordered all state flags be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Wednesday in honor of Keating, who was a graduate of Phoenix's Arcadia High School.
The 31-year-old Keating attended the Naval Academy before becoming a Navy Seal based out of Coronado, California
Keating was the grandson of Charles Keating, Jr., the Arizona financier at the center of the 1989 savings and loan scandal, which led to five U.S. Senators being accused of corruption. The senators allegedly involved were dubbed 'The Keating Five.'
Keating was advising Peshmerga forces but was less than 2 miles behind the front lines in the town of Tel Askuf, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said in a statement. A defense official told Fox News the he was killed by small arms fire, likely from an AK-47 rifle.

Nobody forced him to attend Canoe U. He was a pure volunteer. His rich relatives (if they are such) did not force him to join up. He was a big boy who made his own big boy decision.

The elder Keating was targeted for doing what all other S and Ls were wrongly doing. Targeted for being audacious enough to criticize the porn industry from his perch on a council to investigate that issue. All but 3 people as I remember said porn harmless.
That’s kind of my point.

I must ask, was that statement by Fox News really needed?
I think not. The man was a proud Navy Seal, one of our finest military people who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
Indeed, “Thank You Mr Keating” for your ultimate sacrifice to this country, may you R.I.P.
He died serving and deserves respect. Obama is misusing SEAL types with Kurds as Special Forces/Green Berets are trained to organize, equip, lead and/or advise them on combat OPS, teach tactics, weapons training, commo, etc. Obama and his ilk say no combat troops and we all know that SPECOPS are combat troops. The 5th Group out of Campbell worked with them years ago.
