Donald Trump’s Foes Fear Indiana Primary Could Be Decisive Blow
NY Times ^ | 05-02-2016 | ALEXANDER BURNS

The coalition of Republicans opposed to Donald J. Trump’s candidacy braced Monday for a debilitating setback as he appeared poised for a victory in Indiana that would put him on track to seal the Republican nomination by the time primary voting ends next month.

The Indiana vote has emerged as a decisive and perhaps final test for Senator Ted Cruz, who has abandoned hope of overtaking Mr. Trump in the race but still aims to throw the Republican nominating fight to a contested convention in July. Mr. Cruz, of Texas, has pleaded with Indiana voters in recent days not to anoint Mr. Trump as the party’s standard-bearer, and has devised a series of long-shot tactics to derail him in the state.

Made some tactical mistakes, but no serious blunders the whole way.

Huh???

Here's a short list of serious blunders (just off the top of my head):

1. Aligning himself with Glenn Beck
2. Repeatedly manipulating (stealing) delegates at caucuses and behind the scenes
3. Choosing a VP (desparate move, and not permitted)
4. Teaming with Kasich (then denying, but proven he did!)
5. Not suing National Enquirer (thus giving full credibility to cheating stories)
6. Not learning to talk normally (most people hate lawyers - he ALWAYS sounds like a lawyer)
7. Repeatedly lying about Donald Trump, then stealing Trump's talking points as his own (wall, trade with China, etc.)
8. Caught passing bribe money to delegate

Many, many more ...but I think I made my point!

There will be a substantial number of GOP types working as hard as they can to elect Hillary.

Hillary will play ball and Trump, we hope, will not.

It was hard for me to get it through my thick skull, but “D” and “R” at the top have the same goals now. If you own both horses in the race you can’t lose, and politicians are owned.

Future historians may look back on the Citizens United decision as the Dred Scott of our age. Trump is the current best hope of correcting the Super PAC oligarchy within the rule of law.

That’s reasonable. The correct thing to do. I can’t pull the lever for either but I will certainly back Trump to defeat Hillary.

It doesn’t matter at this point that the Trump supporters wouldn’t have done the same. Time to go after the real enemy.

No. I do not think a substantial number of GOP types will work to elect Hillary.

Yeah, there will be a few, but the #Nevers have been noisier than they've been numerous.

Has anyone in the history of political elections ever based their vote on what Lindsey Graham or George Will would think about it?

Most people will come around. Heck, even Bill Kristol has made some noise indicating he's ready to come off the ledge.

Where is that Mike Downs poll Rush was waving around this morning, showing a 16% lead for Cruz? I don’t see that on you list.

Tremendous perspective. I love that question “has anyone in the history of political elections ever based their vote on what Lindsey Graham or George Will would think about it?” Fantastic.

Time to move to the general after Indiana. Give Cruz one more day. People will come around sooner if a few vocal Trump supporters on this forum stop their ridiculous attacks on Cruz supporters (even the obstinate ones).

” If he had defended Trump’s right to have a rally in Chicago, and a few other things he would be doing better right now. “

You’re correct. And I think the Chicago incident started to expose for the whole world to see Cruz’s utter lack of character and also marked the start of Ted’s long, long slide into campaign oblivion.

That was certainly a watershed moment at FR for Ted, because he lost MASSIVE support amongst his supporters here (the real ones not the now-zotted gaggle of Cruz trolls).

It sucks to see the guy you wanted to win, not prevail.

I know how you feel.

“He just did it again this week- saying we are not bigots, implying Trump and his supporters are. After what happened the last few days (riots), he has the gall to say this”

Yeah, that really stuck in my craw. Ticked me off big-time. Along with his Cruz good, Trump evil oblique remarks. I don’t feel sorry for Cruz at all. Tomorrow I will feel total glee.

RCP removed it from their list yesterday. Apparently they figured out that it was such a fraudulently conducted poll that they could no longer in good conscious include it in their average.
