A huge fire has engulfed a Serbian Orthodox Church in downtown Manhattan, on the day that Orthodox Christians are celebrating the Holy Easter.

This church was built as a “chapel” of Trinty Church Wall Street which is arguably one of the richest individual churches in America. This building is larger than most regular parish churches. Trinty at one time own a quarter of southrn Manhattan. I was not aware of this church, but in 1976 Trinty spun off 10 other chapels in the city into full parishes. One encompasses a whole block in the village with a school and rental housing. Trinty retained St Paul’s Chapel that is three block north because it had no congregation. St. Paul’s was the respite site for 1st responders at the WTC site. It had extensive damage that has been repaired.
You got that right.
Are you familiar with holy fire on Easter Sunday in Orthodox churches? It’s not a stretch to see a fire starting after someone burns themselves with wax.
I’m working late tonight and am nearby, I can see the fire engines from the window by the elevator bank.
Now much stuff do you think was inside that church that could produce all those flames emanating from everywhere?

Gospodi pomiliuj!!!!
At least the fire started long after Pascha services (and the post-Liturgy lunch) were over!!!!
We had a similar schedule at our Serbian Orthodox Temple this morning.
I hope that they have adequate insurance!!!! Nevertheless, it will take a long time before they can resume a normal schedule of services in their Temple.
And it is ENTIRELY premature to guess at the causes of the disaster, or to assign blame for it. We shall see in the next several days and/or weeks.
It’s time to pray for this parish!!!! I imagine that I’ll receive an e-mail from our Priest tomorrow morning!
Are you familiar with the murderous Albanian muslims ? Its not a stretch to see a fire starting after some Albanian muslims set it.
I am amazed at the total cluelesness here with regard to the Orthodox Christian Serbs and the muslim Albanians.
Your book was likely BS. I read Pravda accounts of Chernobyl shortly after the accident and those reports conveyed a horror that was totally lacking in the US MSM.

Any evidence of arson or mention of suspects will be suppressed.
RT tweeted that he was spotted at the scene setting the fire.
My sympathies to the congregation.
I don’t know if they leave candles burning when no one is there. I’ve seen small glass votive candles crack and scatter hot wax and glass. We also had a large votive in one of those cemetery candle holders on my in-laws graves. That one was left burning, and something went awry with it because the most recent time we visited, the holder (plastic) was destroyed and the silk flowers and woodchips around the gravestone were burned. Some churches are using large votives in plastic rather than glass containers.
There has to be a lot of ancient wood decorations there. Old wood burns faster than new wood. Consider the altar itself. Then there's pews, wooden doors... bibles... cloth...incense... candles.... matches... clothing... paintings... maybe even rugs and flags.
A lot can burn inside a stone church.
Trinity Trinity Trinity.
So sad. So much history and treasured artifacts gone.
Ping.
The exterior walls of the church are brick and stone - the floor and roof structures are probably wood.
Muslims?
I'd hope such a large church would have some cameras... although it's not clear the video would survive the conflagration, depending on where the data is stored.
