Ted Cruz Renounces Newly Discovered Canadian Citizenship
Time ^ | 6/10/14

Posted on 05/01/2016 4:18:43 PM PDT by StCloudMoose

The Republican senator gave up his dual citizenship months after first learning he was a Canadian citizen Texas Senator (and possible 2016 presidential hopeful) Ted Cruz has formally given up his Canadian citizenship, about nine months after learning he had it. While at home in Houston on Tuesday, Cruz was notified by mail that the renunciation became official on May 14, The Dallas Morning News reports. “He’s pleased to receive the notification and glad to have this process finalized,” spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said. Cruz intended to give up his Canadian citizenship, which was not a secret, after The Dallas Morning News first brought it to his attention — to the surprise of him and his family — last August. “Nothing against Canada, but I’m an American by birth and as a U.S. senator, I believe I should be only an American,” said Cruz, who was born in the Canadian province of Alberta, at the time. Like U.S. law, Canadian law dictates that anyone born in Canada becomes a Canadian citizen automatically. Babies born in non-U.S. countries to at least one American parent are entitled to American citizenship as well. The U.S. Constitution requires presidents to be “natural born” citizens, which is commonly believed to include Americans born with the right to citizenship, even if they were not born on American soil specifically.

“Did both of his parents apply for Canadian citizenship?”

We know for a fact that Ted Cruz acquired naturalized Canadian citizenship when he was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on 22 December 1970. Under the applicable Canadian law in effect on that date Ted Cruz was eligible to acquire naturalized Canadian citizenship at birth only if one or both of his parents were a Canadian citizen or a Permanent Resident of Canada on the path to acquiring Canadian citizenship. Consequently, it must be inferred that one or both of Ted Cruz’s parents had to be a Canadian citizen or at lest a permanent Resident of Canada on the path to Canadian citizenship. When you read the documents associated with the qualifications for acquiring and retaining status as a Permanent Resident of Canada, the applicant must show an intention to make a commitment to permanently reside in Canada and perhaps to become a naturalized citizen of Canada. Such an application could be rejected if the spouse is obviously not interested in making the same commitment. So, it is reasonable to infer both parents acquired naturalized Canadian citizenship or Eleanor was on the path to acquiring Canadian citizenship and stopped short of doing so while Rafael Cruz did acquire Canadian citizenship.

It’s just confirmation of what Heidi Cruz called Ted, an immigrant. THAT is new news.

If would also be a plausible reason to not know he still had Canadian citizenship if he had thought that amnesty canceled it.

I understand how you must feel having put a lot of emotional energy into this campaign. But you are going to have to face the fact that the person you believe in so deeply now has almost no chance of getting the nomination. So it really doesn’t make any difference at this point whether he is natural born or not. I admit that it is sometimes fun to debate things that just do not matter any more. But you seem to be getting yourself all bent out of shape and that is not healthy. It is time to put on a happy face and figure out where you want to go from here.

He’s the smartest guy in any room he walks into, and didn’t know he was a Canadian citizen.

Wow.

Yes I already knew it, but it’s really rather pathtic.

You were one of the Alpha Freepers I respected most back in the early Barry days.

Now that Rafael is finished, will you vote for Trump over whichever commiecRAT gets their nod?

This could be the nail in the Cruz coffin.

Utah lawyer Walter Wagner has a petition for a writ of certiorari before the US Supreme Court in his challenge that Ted Cruz is not a natural born citizen. The petition is on the docket and a response is indicated by May 5, 2016.

Give it up TED.

You guys are so happy about Trump whose nomination will destroy conservativeism.

No, all those Conservatives we keep sending to DC destroyed the Party long ago.

“So have you by supporting a draft dodging hillary supporter who defends homos in little girls rooms and wants illegal alien amnesty”

1. Opposition to Ted Cruz because he is not a natural born citizen and/or because he is an untrustworthy and habitual liar has nothing to do with Trump’s qualifications and does not constitute support or a defense for Trump.

2. A person does not need to support or defend Trump to take notice of the fact that Ivanna Trump recanted her accusations against Donald Trump. Yet you continue to repeat those allegations despite her recanting of those accusations.

3. A person does not need to support or defend Trump to take notice of the fact that he was not old enough to serve in Vietnam without having been a volunteer enlistee at age 18, unless he did not go to college. If Trump did not go to college and did not receive a college draft deferment, it is still highly unlikely he would have been drafted. If Trump had been drafted, he almost certainly would not have been given a combat assignment in Vietnam unless he chose to volunteer for the assignment. The vast majority of draftees were given assignments in the CONUS, Germany, Italy, South Korea, and Japan. Assignments to combat duty were mostly reserved for volunteers and for volunteers making a career in military service and needed the combat experience to advance their prospects for promotion in their military career. So, these rather juvenile and ignorant accusations of dodging the draft and avoiding combat in Vietnam are usually a lot of false and ugly lies and smears against people who did nothing wrong, whether or not their name happens to be Donald Trump.

4. A person does not need to support or defend Trump to take notice of the fact you lied about what Trump had to say about the LGBT bathroom issue, because he basically said the exact opposite of what you claim he said. I know because I made a transcript of his comments from a video to post in an earlier thread about the subject. If you expect to be effective in opposing Trump, you will need to stop with the stupid and ignorant lies to concentrate on demonstrable proof instead.

4. A person does not need to support or defend Trump to take notice of the fact you lied about what Trump had to say about the deportation of illegal aliens. The unprecedented support of the Border Patrol officers and Trump’s speeches are overwhelming evidence refuting your ugly lies.

I really do not like to be put into the position of debating the innocence of any candidate, including Trump. Nonetheless, if you were to spout the same kind of hateful lies against Ted Cruz, I would dispute those lies just as vigorously despite my being certain Ted Cruz is an ineligible and unlawful candidate and an habitual liar. If I am going to defend anything, it is going to be the truth without regard for the person being discussed. If you cannot and/or will not respect that without your foul vitriol and lying accusations, tough.

Sorry, I forgot. You’re not conservatives.

LOL!

You "Cruz or Lose-ers" and "Cruz to the Bitter Enders" are so pathetic as you do what he has been doing - eschewing all that he claimed to believe in and stand for in a desperate attempt to get him into the WH. For a genius, and master-planner, he sure has allowed trump to walk circles around him and reduce him to a desperate flailing attempt to thwart the People and seat him into a WH that he didn't win or earn.

His obvious need to be President should be a warning sign with flashing lights and sirens that there's something amiss with the man.

Trump will do more to open the door to conservative outsiders and abash the GOPe/RNC than Ted could ever do now - they pray for him to steal it because they consider him less a threat to them than they consider Trump.
