Muslim favourite to run London after racially charged campaign

Sadiq Khan, a Muslim lawmaker from Britain's opposition Labour Party, is the strong favourite to win London's mayoral election on Thursday after a bitter contest marked by religious tensions and accusations of racism.

Polls show Khan, the son of a bus driver, is as much as 20 percentage points ahead of rival Conservative Zac Goldsmith in the race to run one of the world's top financial centres. If he wins, he will succeed current Conservative mayor Boris Johnson to become the first Muslim to head a major western capital.

London's population of 8.6 million is among the most cosmopolitan in the world and it is rare for identity politics to enter British campaigning.

The two mayoral hopefuls also have opposing stances on whether Britain should remain a member of the European Union. Goldsmith (Conservative Party) wants to leave, Khan (Labour Party) wants to stay.

We had plans to go to London in June to attend Ascot. A friend had tickets for the “Royal Enclosure” which requires ladies and gentlemen to dress accordingly. I was looking forward to renting tails, morning coat and top hat to meet these requirements. After the Brussels bombing, we changed our plans. Not going to Europe or any European Capitol until the Muslims have been driven out of Europe. The last time was by Jan Sobieski, King of Poland, in 1683 where he defeated the Ottomans at Vienna. He was heralded as “The savior of Vienna and Western European Civilization.” The World truly needs another man like Sobieski!
