Mitch McConnell Plots to Bar Another Ted Cruz from Senate (primary is Tuesday!!)

Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell is scheming to slam the door of the Senate in the face of another conservative Republican like Sen. Ted Cruz.

McConnell’s super PAC has aggressively bought air time to ensure establishment candidate Rep. Todd Young replaces retiring Sen. Dan Coats. Young is running in the primary against Rep. Marlin Stutzman – a member of the House Freedom Caucus who voted against former Speaker John Boehner. In addition to McConnell’s super PAC, establishment GOP ally the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has spent $1 million to promote Young and keep out anti-establishment Stutzman.

“We must commit ourselves to avoiding the constant cycle of brinkmanship by working across party lines to address issues like job creation, stagnant personal incomes, our unsustainable national debt and rising health-care costs,” Young said in 2013 when he voted to end the government shutdown.

In addition, Young has regularly voted against the conservative alternative to House Republicans’ annual budget proposal.

CNN reports that McConnell views Stutzman as “a potential troublemaker in the Senate GOP Conference, much like Cruz.”

They called me about 4 or 5 months ago with one of those generic surveys thar sought my “input”. I had very specific votes that I told the survey taker about that I thought directly contradicted campaign promises: changing the rules for approval of the Iran treaty, failing to pass individual appropriations bills which forced the omnibus, restoring funding for eximbank, passing fast track approval for TPP. She finally gave up and said thank you we don’t need your input.

They haven’t called me back since.

I think it’s a sign of an ethical character to know who is donating to you and to stop or return contributions from shady characters.

I’m not sure in this case how much is asked of a donor to share about their background but I can see how it would reflect positively on a politician to ask for some information.

I thank FR everyday. I mentioned telling my sister and family to vote for young because the commercials show him to be a good family man and conservative. I’m from Florida and an idiot. Sorry but for someone so involved in politics that I got taken like a novice. I learned from FR that young was not the right person for the senate. Granted we are talking 3 votes that will not go to young now but it could help to make a difference. I was trying to be helpful as my sister and family are not as politically involved as I am. They will vote for trump of course and thanks to FRiends here will vote for Stutzman. The voters are my brother in law, my sister and for the first time my nephew who just turned 18. My family voted in Florida match 15th. What a joy that was. First time since I began voting in 1988 that I was excited to cast a vote.

Just because they say ‘conservative like Ted Cruz,’ doesn’t mean Cruz isn’t an “insider.” Remember, Ted Cruz was VP of the very organization responsible (NRSC) during the time they funded the Mississippi Massacre.

You don’t sit as VP while this is happening to a fellow conservative and do nothing unless you are part of the problem. It was the first sign for me that Ted Cruz might not be what he pretended to be. And yes, Ted Cruz is an “insider.”

>> A conservative can support Trump without the need to lie about Ted Cruz <<

I don’t see much evidence to support your belief, at least not around here. I am now persuaded by supporters of Mr. Trump that Cruz is indeed Lucifer Incarnate.

Therefore, in keeping with the age-old wisdom that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, I guess we gotta count Old Mitch as one of the good guys.

They don't want our input, just our money and votes.Their calls are just a front to open the door to your wallet. Something happens to elected officials when they get to Washington, D.C. They forget their raison d'etre and suddenly go along to get along. It happened to John Thune, Orin Hatch, Pat Toomey, Ron Johnson, and on and on. Power corrupts.
