Pete Wilson of California Backs Ted Cruz and Warns of Donald Trump
NY Times ^ | Apr. 30, 2016 | Jonathan Martin

Former Gov. Pete Wilson of California used a surprise appearance before the state’s Republican convention on Saturday to endorse Senator Ted Cruz, warning that the nomination of Donald J. Trump could lead to political ruin for the party’s candidates this November.

“My friends, we cannot afford a Republican nominee that brings us down-ticket decimation,” said Mr. Wilson, pointing to Mr. Trump’s weakness among women voters.

He also used his remarks to argue that Mr. Trump could not be trusted with Supreme Court appointments, an issue of great importance to the highly engaged conservative activists gathered in a hotel ballroom here near San Francisco.

Cruz has all the wrong friends.

Cruz thinks all these "endorsements" he's been receiving lately are from people who actually want to see him elected president.

You must be be thinking about a different Governor Pete Wilson that I experienced when I lived in California.

If there is down-ticket decimation it will be on account of the Republican candidate being exposed as an elitist and phony Conservative as most are.

I've known Pete since he first ran for California State Assemblyman. I actually met him working for Goldwater's campaign. He was a true conservative back then.

Of course, he'd be against Mr. Trump! Too out-spoken and independent for GOPartyFirster-Pete. I'm just shocked he didn't endorse Kasich, but I guess he figures Kasich hasn't a chance.

LOLOLOLOL. Still laughing.

‘All the news that fits, we print’

Many New Yorkers have turned away from the former ‘paper of record’.

poppycock

“down ticket decimation” is the GOPe equivalent of screaming ‘global warming’

The Trump Train is rolling thru California and Cleveland bound. Get on or get off the tracks ‘cause there’s no brakes on this train!

They really don’t get it, if they succeed in derailing Trump there will be a revolt. And the GOP will pay from the top of the ticket to the bottom.

Down ticket decimation in a state with not one Republican in statewide office.

Yep, the GOPe is so bad here that hardly any Republicans will even be on the statewide ballot as the two highest vote getters are the only ones on the general ballot.

Pete, if Trump bring record numbers of Republican voters to the polls in the primary, that might change.

So silly. Yes, Wilson is a big lib. He was Mr. Open Borders California when he was there.

And equally silly. Trump will crush Cankles in the Electoral College. I’ll give ya, the popular vote might be a little closer.

Once again, the parroted term ‘down-ticket’ is used.

What he is really saying is that, if Trump wins the election, all those do-nothing-for-the-money-Publicrats just might be seeing their last term in office!!

How can anyone support Cruz with a straight face after the 6 state beating he just took? I mean he wasn’t even close! Dead last place. People have got to be thinking that Cruz is just totally bonkers at this point...along with anyone endorsing him. Or they are getting paid big bucks to do it.

Pete is a St. Louis blue blood (went to Country Day school) who has been buddies with the Bushes forever.

Does not like Cruz, but will support him to stop America's pick, Trump. Wilson is a typical elitist. He has been irrelevant for decades. "The Wilson family moved to St. Louis, Missouri when Pete was in junior high school. There, he attended the St. Louis Country Day School, an exclusive private high school." "On February 4, 2008, Wilson endorsed John McCain as a candidate for U.S. President." "In 2009, Wilson became the campaign chairman of the Meg Whitman for Governor Campaign." From WIKI

All? No.

Pete King

Chris Christie

Newt Gingrich (certainly GOPE in my book)

John Boehnher

Scott Brown

While by and large the GOPE views Cruz as a lesser evil (primarily because they think Trump could lose big and take Congress with him) plenty of them are open to to Trump and plenty of them hate Cruz more.

And Cruz’s campaign claims he hasn’t made any deals or aligned with such in any way - (I told them that treating those they were hitting up for money as stupid buffoons wasn’t going to get the job done for them). I guess he’ll be sending Carly out to do his dirty work so he can keep his hands “clean”.....
