GOP Turnout, Already Strong, Is Getting Stronger

Republican turnout this primary season is up 64% over 2012 levels, new data show, with participation accelerating in recent months as voters in big states got a rare shot to play a meaningful role.

The rise in GOP turnout had been calculated at about 57% in the aggregate for states that voted through early April. The subsequent boost in what was already high GOP turnout comes as voters in New York, Pennsylvania and several other populous states had the rare opportunity this year in helping to choose the party’s nominee. Rarely has the contest lasted long enough for the outcome in those states to be consequential.

The lengthy competition, combined with the high interest in front-runner Donald Trump, is likely why turnout in New York’s April 19 primary was up more than 430% from 2012, according to data compiled by Public Opinion Strategies, a Republican polling firm.

The analysis found that turnout was up more than 250% in Connecticut, 320% in Rhode Island and 97% in Pennsylvania, three of the five states that voted on April 26, compared with turnout in 2012.

Dems may not be able to cheat their way to victory.

Can’t believe they have no poll numbers to show how much is attributable to Trump.

And the pointy headed, corrupt and dishonest GOPe keep trying to convince us that Trump has no chance to win, either the primary or the general. They are really a vile, disgusting lot and much worse than the liberals, who do not run around claiming they are conservatives.

Never underestimate the psychotic tenacity of revolutionary communists.

I voted here in east TN on the last day of early voting. There were plenty of voting machines, no screw-ups, and a polite, orderly crowd. Nevertheless it took an hour in line to vote. This was by far the largest turnout I’ve ever seen here in what is a very Republican, conservative area.

I hope you are correct, but the real question is’
Is this a turn out of Reagan Democrats or a Democrat Operation Chaos?

We will find out either in November. Well, in November if the GOPe cannot find a way to dump Trump.

So, it seems that a competitive race is a _good_ thing for Republicans.

My guess is the former, as I know a number of disenchanted democrats who switched party affiliation in Pennsylvania in order to vote for Trump in the primary.

Yeah, that whole narrative reminds me of the pre-Windows quote by Bill Gates about how people prefer the power and simplicity of a command line over a GUI.

This shows that the GOP grooms the wrong types of politicians. They should be promoting Reagans and Trumps, instead of Doles, Bushes, McCains, and Romneys.

The GOP promotes Doles, Bushes, McCains and Romneys because it's those types that are in control of the party. They hate anyone that talks conservative or unabashedly nationalistic pro-American. They are not much different than Democrats in their hatred for the average working American.

I know I've told this story before, but my mother was friends with a lady whose daughter was active in the Georgia Young Republicans. Shortly after I graduated from college she encouraged me to go to a local meeting.

I ended up going to several, and the people there were, without exception, the smarmiest, blandest, most uninteresting people I had ever met. There was absolutely no discussion of political philosophy or ideals, of what needed to be changed or rolled back, or of what trends already in force would mean for the future.

Every conversation was about whom, in govt, one worked for or knew, what internships people had had, what "policy" boards or conferences one had attended. It was 100% networking and attempting to get invited inside the big political machine.

It was obvious these people were Republican mainly because Republican power was on the ascent in Georgia at the time (early 90's), would be for the foreseeable future, and would give them a better chance at a lucrative career in government.

How do you explain closed primaries like NY?

You can kid yourself thinking Republican do not support Trump but that is not true.

Look at the New York primary results. Hillary literally almost doubled up on Trump. She got more votes than all three of the GOP candidates combined. In Pennsylvania she got about 26,000 more votes than Trump, and the Dems combined got 80,000 more than the Republicans. In North Carolina, she got over 150,000 more votes than Trump. The total Republican vote was less than 10,000 more than the total Democrat vote.

Anyone who says Hillary is going to have to put in time to defend New York from going Republican in the general election is delusional. Ohio seems to be the best possible state to flip. Even though Trump came in second, he beat Hillary by 50,000 votes there.
