Hundreds of demonstrators filled the street outside the Orange County amphitheater where Donald Trump held a rally Thursday night, stomping on cars, hurling rocks at motorists and forcefully declaring their opposition to the Republican presidential candidate.
Traffic came to a halt as a boisterous crowd walked in the roadway, some waving American and Mexican flags. Protesters smashed a window on at least one police cruiser, punctured the tires of a police sport utility vehicle, and at one point tried to flip a police car.
About five police cars were damaged in total, police said, adding that some will require thousands of dollars' worth of repairs.
"Dump the Trump," one sign read. Another protester scrawled anti-Trump messages on Costa Mesa police cars.
"I'm protesting because I want equal rights for everybody, and I want peaceful protest," said 19-year-old Daniel Lujan, one of hundreds in a crowd that appeared to be mostly Latinos in their late teens and 20s.
"I knew this was going to happen," Lujan added. "It was going to be a riot. He deserves what he gets." Video footage showed some anti-Trump demonstrators hurling debris at a passing pickup truck. One group of protesters carried benches and blocked the entrance to the 55 Freeway along Newport Boulevard, with some tossing rocks at motorists near the on-ramp.
By 10:15 p.m., the bedlam had largely subsided and Lt. Mark Stichter of the Orange County sheriff's department said no major injuries were reported.
Costa Mesa police confirmed that a total of 17 people -- 10 males and 7 females -- were arrested on suspicion of unlawful assembly. Details on the ages and names of those arrested were not released.
The violent demonstration was underway after Trump concluded his speech before a crowd of thousands.

To be fair, that was a peaceful protest by Latin American standards.
We should have taken the whole country. There are a lot of natural resources there, that are squandered by their government.
During the 2000 election Al Gore “hanging chad” fiasco, the MSM referred to GOP voter protests as “angry mobs” and accused them of attempting to impose “mob rule.”

They’ll merely pizz off more citizens, who have “had it up to here” with these rioting freeloaders, and drive them to Trump in November.

These aren’t ‘protesters’ they’re criminals - and they should have been arrested.
Keep protesting and waving those Mexican flags! The more people that see you the better! Oh, and enjoy America while you can because we are going to kick your a$$e$ out!
They are actually making Trump’s point by showing what type of people the wall will keep out.
These violent criminals need to go back to the hellhole they came from... to the places where drug cartels rule and everyone in government is on the take.
America doesn’t need illegals, we don’t need their values and and damn sure don’t need their violent culture.

They are taught that we took their heritage and land and use them as slaves to build everything. They are not taught that we could have/should have taken the whole country after we whipped them in war. They are not told we paid for the land they claim we took. They are not told the Mexican government was so weak they could not sustain the Spanish colonies here which made it easier for the Southwest to become part of the United States. They are not told we did and can do just fine without them.
They believe our politicians when they say we are too lazy to work. They have no respect for this country or our people- none. They have some lessons to learn and I hope they get to have those lessons real soon.

Yo, Carlos, do you have doors and locks on your house? A middle school student and I once had a discussion on illegals. She was whining that her family is illegal and why should her nice old grandmother be deported. Whaaaa, it’s not fairrrrrrr!!!!!!!! Grandma didn’t do anything wrongggggggg!!!!!! I asked if she had doors on her house. She said yes. I asked her why. She said to keep out strangers. I asked if those doors were locked. She said yes, of course, people will steal your stuff. I said we have borders to keep strangers out. But, but!!!!!!!!! I asked if it would be ok for me to walk into her house, raid her fridge, sit on her couch and watch tv without her permission. She was shocked and said no. I told her that is exactly what illegals do when they take advantage of our good nature. The other students in class were laughing their butts off and telling her she lost but she was determined. But, but!!!!! I told her crossing the border illegally is a crime, staying here is a crime and taking welfare from taxpaying citizens is stealing from US citizens and from those immigrants who came here legally. But, but!!!!! Thankfully, the bell rang. The other students got it. She never did and never will.
