Oh, I don’t know. Do you remember the supposedly growing fad out West among dopers who were finding desert toads who had a hallucinogenic secretion coming out of their eyes?
The approved method of getting high was to lick the toad. It appeared to be a really good money-maker for the dealers since all you had to do was catch the toads as they hopped along. I think the idea was for the dealer to sell the substance by the lick instead of selling the toad. You don’t want to let go of your money maker, eh?
Unfortunately for the toad dope dealers, the putative market of toad lickers was very small compared to the energy involved in catching hopping toads out in the hot desert.
I think this was another case of Adam Smith’s “invisible hand” of market dynamics dooming an entire industry in its cradle.
