Poll: Trump holds double-digit lead in Oregon

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump holds a double-digit lead over his competitors in Oregon, according to a new poll by Portland-based Hoffman Research Group.

Trump has 43 percent support in the poll, followed by Ted Cruz with 26 percent and John Kasich with just 17 percent support.

Cruz and Kasich announced last weekend a joint effort to deny Trump the nomination. As part of the strategy, Kasich would clear a path for Cruz in the Indiana primary and Cruz would back down in Oregon and New Mexico. But both candidates have walked away from the arrangement since their campaigns' announcement. Kasich still falls 9 points behind the Texas senator in Oregon, according to the poll.

The survey also found that 49 percent of Republican voters view Trump favorably and 40 percent have an unfavorable view of the front-runner. Cruz has a favorability rating of 42 percent and is viewed negatively by 37 percent of Republican voters.

Kasich is viewed positively by 34 percent and negatively by 25 percent of Republican respondents. According to the poll, 17 percent of respondents said they had never heard of Kasich.

The survey also found that 53 percent of men are supporting Trump, but just 34 percent of women. Trump also has more support among older voters and less-frequent voters.

The poll was conducted this week among 555 Republican voters and has a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.

The Oregon Republican primary will be May 17.

Doesn’t mean they won’t vote for Trump. All of Oregon has suffered from the pot grows that illegals do in their forests

Typical government bureaucrat. When they have money at the end of the year, they have to spend it or they lose it. Same with Kasich, he’s got all this PAC money sitting there, and nothing to save it for. God forbid he should give it to a worthy cause, instead of wasting it on a lost cause.

“T = 26 + 17”

Interesting numbers, but doesn’t this help Trump as Kasich won’t pull all Cruz’s numbers. Some will go to Trump. What am I missing?

Republican Party

Oregon is expected to have 28 delegates at the 2016 Republican National Convention. Of this total, 15 will be district-level delegates (three for each of the state’s five congressional districts). Oregon’s district delegates will be allocated on a proportional basis in accordance with the statewide primary vote.[3]

Example: Assume that there are three presidential candidates on the Republican primary ballot in Oregon. Candidate A won 48 percent of the statewide primary vote, Candidate B won 30 percent and Candidate C won 22 percent. Candidate A would receive roughly seven of the state’s district delegates, Candidate B would receive roughly five and Candidate C would receive three.

Of the remaining 13 delegates, 10 will serve at large. Oregon’s at-large delegates will be allocated proportionally in accordance with the statewide primary vote. In addition, three national party leaders (identified on the chart below as RNC delegates) will serve as bound delegates to the Republican National Convention. The RNC delegates will be required to pledge their support to the winner of the state’s primary.[3]

I assume you’re not referencing Pink Floyd’s “Careful With That Axe, Eugene”

PS: skip to 3:00 for Eugene’s “response”...

This Presidential Primary coincides with a state/local primary. These coinciding primaries tend to have an impact upon voter turnout.

Tuesday 17 May 2016: All 28 of Oregon’s delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today’s Presidential Primary.

28 (15 district, 10 at-large, 0 bonus, plus 3 party leader) delegates to the National Convention are to be bound to presidential contenders based on the primary vote statewide. Compute the number of delegates each candidate receives by taking 28 delegates × the candidate’s statewide vote ÷ the total statewide and round down to the whole number. If too few delegates are allocated, round up those candidates with the largest remainders until all delegates have been allocated. [Special Rules for the ORP 7.6]

Statewide 28

Delegates 28
The 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Oregon’s Republican Party, will attend the convention as bound delegates by virtue of their position.

This is a vote by mail primary. State election officials will be mailing ballots out to registered voters before the election; the voter has until 8 PM local time on the date of the Primary to return the completed ballot to either the county election office or a designated drop site — postmarks do not count.
