There was an EMP-related article on FR the other day and the poster was universally ridiculed, which is sad.

CME and the attendant EMP could end life as we know it for America.

A great starting point to learn about the effects of EMP on our modern society is the fictional novel One Second After by William R. Forstchen. He lays it out. Foreward by Newt Gingrich, of all people.

In the book 90% of all Americans die in the first year without electricity.

All diabetics will die.
Most folks on blood thinners will die.
Anyone with an electronic medical device that regulates the heart will die.
The elderly will die off fast without their meds.
Preemie babies will die at a far higher rate than they do now.

Blah, blah, blah. Seems like nobody cares.

On the other hand, property will become cheap and readily available.

As usual, the sheeple are asleep. No one takes this kind of stuff seriously until they are hit square in the face with the cold hand of reality.

Me, I personally feel that none of this will happen (sorry if take this thread in a religious direction) until after the Rapture of the Church and the last seven years of this present age begin.

I see the United States, indeed, much of the North American continent, destroyed by a combination of geological events. The San Andreas fault, the New Madrid fault, the Yellowstone Caldera and the East Coast fault all go at once destroying this part of the world. Very little life will be saved.

Rev 6:12-17, "And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

This sets the stage for the last of the great empires to emerge across the pond and for end time world events to occur.

Excellent book! Must reading for all FReepers, especially Preppers. Amazon link.

Google.

Sure wish they'd make a movie from the book.

Do you think a single poster on this thread knows what the Carrington Event was? I believe that some CME’s are so large that the magnetosphere collapses the the ground - a good candidate for the cause of the Holocene Megafauna extinction.

Agreed. The Forstchen book is a real eye-opener, and was cited and recommended by the U.S. Congress - which back in the 1990's established a commission to attempt to deal with the EMP and CME threats, which could end life as we know it.

The elderly will die off fast without their meds.

We're doomed, only millennials will survive. I betting on the ants.

I am going to suggest there is a relation between CMEs and earthquakes on the Pacific rim the last few months.
