Trump garners two more endorsements in U.S. Congress

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Thursday won endorsements from two more U.S. Congress members as he battled to be his party's nominee.

Of the 300 Republicans in Congress - 246 in the House of Representatives and 54 in the Senate - Trump now had the explicit support of 11 with the newly announced public backing by Representatives Jeff Miller of Florida and Bill Shuster of Pennsylvania.

Trump, a billionaire businessman, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Ohio Governor John Kasich were vying for the nomination to represent the Republican Party in the Nov. 8 general election.

"Donald Trump is the only person who has what it takes to shake up the status quo and entrenched bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.," Miller said in a statement.

Miller, who will retire from the Republican-controlled Congress at year's end, capping 16 years in the House, has chaired the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

Shuster, also in his 16th year in the House, has chaired a powerful transportation committee.

Trump backers in Congress have argued that many more lawmakers privately expressed support for Trump, but still have to run in primaries and so have publicly remained neutral.

Representative Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, who endorsed Trump this month, said in an interview that the Trump campaign was cranking up its outreach to Congress.

Cruz, a small-government Tea Party favorite, has snared more endorsements from Congress members.

The most prominent U.S. Republican lawmakers to publicly endorse Trump was Senator Jeff Sessions, who has been advising the campaign on foreign policy.

The others were U.S. Representatives Chris Collins, Duncan Hunter, Tom Marino, Tom Reed, Scott DesJarlais, Lou Barletta and Renee Ellmers.

No, Kasich is not conservative by any stretch of the imagination.

As of just a few months ago, Cruz was considered conservative UNTIL he received a GOPe endorsement. I still think he is conservative, but not perfect, and has run a horrible campaign. He deserves to lose at this point.

Also, I hope Trump gets his 1237, so that we don’t se any GOPe maneuvering to put their candidate in.

Off topic, but...

300 Republicans in the Congress. THREE HUNDRED!

And they collectively did nothing but give obama and the left carte blanche to destroy this great nation, even though they always had the Constitutional authority to do so. Including reigning in a communist judicial system.

Aided, abetted, or given comfort by the likes of FOX, Rush, Mark, Sean, and Medved.

We the People have good reason to be in revolt.

You’re forgetting the one variable that will insure Trump’s success as Chief Executive:

The iron clad support of We the People.

How will our support get a hostile Congress to pass what he wants passed? And if they don't he will go to Executive Orders. Which means Congress is irrelevant.

Is that what you want? Someone who can just decree?

Wait!!

That should be THREE!!!

I’m pretty sure that Boehner’s anti-Cruz tirade was a clear Trump endorsement.

After Trump’s incredible victories in the Northeast, anyone in those areas in fear of being primaried or worried about re-election in November better jump on the Trump Train.

It is not flip/flopping that bothers me. It is the: if my candidate does it, it is ok, but if your candidate does it, he’s the devil incarnate.

Who is your candidate?

I was curious. I was a Cruz supporter in the beginning (including financially). I believed what many had posted here about him. It didn't take long for me to see there were many problems with the narrative.

I began to investigate and that is when I turned. There was nothing in the narrative that was true.

And who defines what is a "conservative view?" The National Review? Mark Levin?

We are being manipulated and deceived by "conservative" politicians who know the right buzz words but betray us with their actions. Is Paul Ryan a conservative?

According to you, it certainly isn’t Trump, since he is not an “ideologue”, and conservatism is an ideology.

I don't like labels. Trump is a conservative on the issues that matter most to me, i.e., immigration, national security, and trade.

I find Cruz wanting on immigration and trade.

Post #13: Trump is not an ideologue. Cruz is.

OK, then. Thank you for the discussion.
