Trump's 'America first' speech alarms U.S. allies

Donald Trump's first major foreign policy address alarmed American allies, who view the Republican front runner's repeated invocation of an "America first" agenda as a threat to retreat from the world.

While most governments were careful not to comment publicly on a speech by a U.S. presidential candidate, Germany's foreign minister veered from that protocol to express concern at Trump's wording.

"I can only hope that the election campaign in the USA does not lack the perception of reality," Frank-Walter Steinmeier said.

"The world's security architecture has changed and it is no longer based on two pillars alone. It cannot be conducted unilaterally," he said of foreign policy in a post-Cold War world. "No American president can get round this change in the international security architecture.... 'America first' is actually no answer to that."

These nations are pouring all of their treasury into socialist efforts to keep their nation afloat. High unemployment and other consequences of a top down economic control spends much on bureaucrats and leave little money left over for defense.

The idea that understanding your duty to your fellow countrymen is some form of "isolationism," is a Leftist canard that goes well with the rest of what is "politically correct," but it is completely contrary to the realities of American history.

It needs to be rejected as the misleading notion that it is.

Eff you, you leech! Its about over for your blood sucking and if your countrymen and women dont get with it and throw your asses out, we will stand by and watch in amazement as you AGAIN go down the hole.

I guess that the Euros are upset since we won’t be paying for their national defence anymore. I guess they expect us to do it while they allow their countries to be invaded.

They have not been allies since the end of WW2. They have been freeloaders. The US pays for almost all of NATO while they spend their money on their welfare states. If they were required to spend X amount of GDP on material and personnel to support NATO then we might not be having this discussion.

This is like A'kierra Ghetto complaining that she's not getting enough welfare to live in a big house with a Cadillac in the driveway.

It’s like co-dependency in a bad relationship. The U.S. has been the enabler of so many others, (countries, religious groups, sexual orientation groups), for so long and have given of ourselves to prop of those groups to our own detriment. That when we even start to say enough is enough that we get shouted down, slapped around and then told to get back to work and give them what ever they desire.

The only way to stop that cycle is to leave it and don’t turn back when the abusers say that they’ll change if we give them one more chance. We as a country need to look after our own interests and quit propping up everyone else to our detriment.

The Germans, after inflicting 30 million casualties in WWII, learned the wrong lesson. Not all war is bad. Being prepared isn’t a bad thing. It depend what side you are on.

Denial - No way Trump lost it. Everybody supported Trump. All my family and coworkers supported Trump. How can he lose?

Anger - What kind of moron votes for Hillary over Trump? Cruzers!! They back-stabbed us!

Bargaining - Plese indict Hillary. We cannot have a criminal be elected a President. FBI, are you listening??

Depression - This country is over. I don’t know what to do.

Acceptance - Oh well, Trump was never a conservative anyway but a RINO who bashed the party and was registered democract just a few years ago. Next time, we will nominate an actual conservative to defeat the liberals.

The European socialists who are facilitating the muslim invasions of human civilization are not our allies, regardless of our past alliances. These treasonous war criminals need to be properly tried and dispatched by their own citizens.

Perhaps the NATO funding and arms should go directly to the people of the European nations so they can exact justice against their own treasonous politicians (and the sub-human muslim invaders).

Just like those in the US who are on welfare but are perfectly able to work, they should have some skin in the game or not receive the free ride at the expense of those who do work. Trump is going to change the US welfare check to the rest of the world and demand they put some of their own skin in the game be it military defense, loans to poor countries, etc. I love it, Trump said the US will no longer give to any government that votes against America’s interests. Oh that’s going to piss some people off.

I think the current German problem is that while many hoped Mrs. Merkel would be a German Maggie Thatcher, she has now turned into a German Hillary Clinton.

The US doesn’t have allies. It has parasite infestations.

I've never put it to words, that that is exactly what it is.

All the so-called allies are parasites when it comes to wanting the U.S. to defend them.

They are all parasites when it comes to wanting U.S. dollars in foreign aid.

They bad-mouth us to their people, but let the SHTF, who do they run to? Etc!

They fear they will need to pay up—or invest in their own army and navy. The USA is limited today—We are not the powerhouse that won WW II. We need to fall back and re-group. That doesn’t mean we can not be partners with them—and help them—BUT it must be equal.

“speech alarms U.S. allies”

Perhaps because a little less free money might be coming their way.

“They fear they will need to pay up—or invest in their own army and navy.”

But not so fearful that they don’t feel they cannot lecture us about unilateral action. They do not see the contradiction, but they will figure it out, I’m confident.
