This Is the Donald Trump That Could Win 40 States
Brietbart ^ | 27 Apr 2016 | Virgil

Donald Trump is two for two with teleprompter-ed speeches. That is, he is batting 1000 with remarks that are carefully prepared and delivered. So for his sake, he should keep it up. And if he does, he can win the Republican nomination in July and the general election in November—by carrying 40 states.

Trump’s speech today to the Center for the National Interest (CFTNI), an old-line “realist” think tank in DC, was well received. CFTNI was once known as the Nixon Center, as in, the 37th president, and it still includes on its board such legendary Nixon foreign-policy hands as Henry Kissinger.

Not surprisingly, Trump’s hard-nosed policy ideas were a tonic to grizzled Nixonian realpolitikers. Yet at the same time, his ideas were cheering to a younger generation, weary of the endless wars-for-democracy of the Bush 43 administration, as well as the foolishly sovereignty-smiting policies of the Clinton and Obama administrations.

Indeed, in choosing to speak before CFTNI, as opposed to, say, AEI or Heritage, Trump was sending a clear signal to the neocons who dominated the Bush 43 administration: Your days of costly nation-building are done. (And yet interestingly, Trump was introduced by Zalmay Khalilzad, Bush 43’s ambassador to the United Nations.)

So when Trump puts his mind to it, he can be not only entertaining but also effective. His CFTNI speech, on top of his March 21 speech to the America Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), proves that Trump can operate smoothly at the presidential level.

In his 38-minute address, Trump got right down to it: “It’s time to shake the rust off America’s foreign policy. It’s time to invite new voices and new visions into the fold, something we have to do.”

If they get the turnout, which is a big ‘if’.

Also, if Walker gets picked as VP, we can win WI.

“40 states? Never. Hillary starts off with 22 states @ 259 EV’s in the bag. I think only three states are truly “swing states” (MI, OH, FL). Hillary just needs one to win. Trump must get all three. “

Nope.

Trump will win CO (easily). Hillary = 250
Trump will win FL (easily). Hillary = 221

The battle will be in OH and PA.

And perhaps Trump steals CT.

“That probably means that Trump will choose Kasich.”

That would guarantee OH, help in PA and maybe VA.

btw I don’t like Kasich, he’s a rino putz.

“Ah, the first Hillary shill has openly arrived on Free Republic.”

Well a Reagan like victory would be nice. But I don’t see that happening.

I just want to see the Democrats rejected and repudiated this November. I am working on overlooking my distrust of Trump and just focusing and massive rejection of Hillary.

Than being said, I don’t see Reagan style victory. The country is too polarized and divided for that. A Bush Sr like victory in ‘88 would be good, but I would settle for even a Bush Jr. like 2004 win.

CT

I appreciated Trump mentioning we have stood by and watched ISIS persecute Christians in the middle east to the point of genocide and we should be ashamed of that as a country.

That was aimed straight at the Obama administration and Hillary. He got some applause when he said that.

I think you’ll be surprised. Almost all those states that are automatically put in the Democrat column do occasionally elect Republicans and Trump is the kind of Republican most of them elect when they do.

Trump-Clinton will be a wipeout.

I think MD is also in play. MD came out BIG for Trump, bigger than they needed to in the primary.

That might be the case if Cruz is the nominee.

In fact, you could probably add 4-5 of those red states and another 50 or so EVs to the Hillary column.

On paper Kasich helps in Ohio and your reasoning is sound, but I believe Trump will have a female running mate. No guesses yet, but it blunts Hillary’s main asset, lessens the silly sexist line of attack on Trump, and it softens his image. This is the smart political play. Trump’s “America first” talk and his jobs talk put most of the rust belt in play. Just my .02

I was thinking the same thing. At least we won’t be holding our nose to vote for the POTUS, but we will be holding our nose for the VP...That does not mean on President Trump’s next 4 years, he will have to choose Kasich.

And Bernie's people are going to either sit on their hands or grudge vote Trump, per their own angry declarations, over Hillary stealing the nomination from them.

Based on the number of Bernie stickers/signs/pins I've seen in my deep blue east SF Bay neighborhood, I'll guess that Trump will carry California.

So Trump can deliver a prepared speech. Who knew?

He needs some experts that can come to his support. Very presidential to have a big name surrogate take your side.
