The Pentagon is looking to raise the price of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco sold on U.S. military installations worldwide, in an attempt to ween U.S. service members from tobacco use. Defense Secretary Ash Carter codified the policy in an April 8th department-wide memorandum, which also expanded smoke-free areas on American military bases, according to Reuters. The new tobacco policy would increase prices on cigarettes and smokeless tobacco sold at U.S. military commissaries and post exchanges to match the price of tobacco products sold off base, which are subject to state and local taxes. Currently, tobacco products sold on U.S. bases

Doesn’t the O_tard smoke?
Headshake
I forgot, he is above the law. Only real citizens are bound by it. Not Global citizens.
Remember when you use to get mini cigarette packs in C-Rations. Man those Lucky Strike unfiltereds could give you a buzz.
Many of us cigar smokers send cigars to the troops as a gift. They really love it.
That would be a great way to show what you think of this insane tobacco policy.

Smoke em if you got em.
Guys out on the frontline want to light up then let them.
He has told Moochelle he quit smoking??? now he only smokes with those who know he still does and he hides it from her...but I would bet he still smokes and we will find out when he is out of office...BECAUSE
PEOPLE WILL BE WRITING ‘TELL ALL’ BOOKS.... MONEY TALKS AND THEY WILL ALL BE TALKING...WATCH AND SEE...GOING TO BE FUN TIMES...
Been rolling “pipe” tobacco since I served from ‘85-’93....entirely differnt tax class....chewed at night so I would not be a target...Fk obama and fk the current crop running the military ...the upper officers are heavily invested in in the spending trends of the young enlistee’s....ever wonder why stereos/cars/motorcycles/computers and anything else desired is always surrounding the bases ...just sign here and we will set up a savings account in kalamazoo bank so it goes along with electronic pay method that the brass demands...the officer class is bad. the ones that do what they are supposed to are shunned and put in the worst places.
Active Duty/Retiree ping.
This is bs. Tobacco products on base have been the same price as off post since Clinton. They have already outlawed smoking except in designated areas, and those have been disappearing for years. Just one more way to disrespect the military and change the image from men into pajama boys.
Our last true benefit is the Class IX, and it will soon be sunsetted as well if rumors are true. One of these days a general with balls will end this social experiment—I’m just not sure he will be an American General...
Good God, this kind of thing makes me angry.
Funny. I don’t smoke, but...I have begun to enjoy cigars, just because they put off a lot of smoke and piss liberals and nanny-statists off.
I was visiting with the DC Chapter of FR down in DC, and we went to a Cigar Restaurant after counter-protesting Code Pink in front of Walter Reed, and there was something great about just lighting up inside a building, knowing it would outrage some liberal somewhere.
To paraphrase Mencken (something I am somewhat loathe to do): “Liberalism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.”
And, thanks for your service.
Sounds like the tobacco companies are leaving money on the table as far as selling to APO’s.
The dumbchit is using static scoring again. The dynamic military personnel will just head on down to the local Indian smoke shop.
The most regressive taxes are on those things that lower income people use. Alcohol, tobacco, and cell phone plans. In WA state, a 5th of tequila is around $30...pack of smokes $8.50, and $25% added on to the cell phone bill.
Why would Obama care what a pack of smokes cost, he can afford them.
On another angle to the cigarette cost, how much added weight is there onto smokers that quit? Where is all of that money set aside for smokers health, when they added a large tax increase both nationally and statewide? Why would we need more money for smokers, when they cost the government and society less because they don’t collect SS money as long, or live as long?
Doesnt O smoke??
“Yeah, but nobody cares if he dies from it.”
I think there are some who wish he would....
You're more or less correct. When I joined back in '03, smokes were a little cheaper on base but not much. Mostly, they were only cheaper because they weren't taxed. Gradually the price has increased to where there is little difference. Additionally, smoking sections are fewer and farther away. The naval hospitals are completely smoke-free. You have to drive off campus to smoke.
It's becoming a moot point. Mirroring the civilian world, there are fewer and fewer smokers in the military these days and increasingly those who choose to ingest nicotine are vaping.
Glad I quit last year.
Non issue to me. If they don’t like prices then grow their own. Tobacco isn’t illegal.
Just think about all those healthy, non-smoking military retirees and what their 50+ years of Tricare retirement health coverage costs are going to be.
