Donald J. Trump Foreign Policy Speech

Thank you for the opportunity to speak to you, and thank you to the Center for the National Interest for honoring me with this invitation.

I would like to talk today about how to develop a new foreign policy direction for our country – one that replaces randomness with purpose, ideology with strategy, and chaos with peace.

It is time to shake the rust off of America’s foreign policy. It's time to invite new voices and new visions into the fold.

The direction I will outline today will also return us to a timeless principle. My foreign policy will always put the interests of the American people, and American security, above all else. That will be the foundation of every decision that I will make.

America First will be the major and overriding theme of my administration.

But to chart our path forward, we must first briefly look back.

There are many definitions of who and what is
“conservative”, out there today. The word has long been highjacked and is now in the eye of the beholder.

I mean, even RINO’s get to call themselves conservative, and are doing so all day long.

Take Cruz for example, his globalist connections pale compared to TRUMP, and while always voicing objections to their goals, on and off the floor of the Senate, he has enabled their agenda where he could, but still perform pony tricks for his flock of geese as if he were opposed.

I’m not arguing with you, just stating some unpleasant facts about what might happen in 2016 election cycle...

If we do lose the Senate, do you really think people like Chuckie, Pelosi, Patty Murray, etc will roll over for Trump....?

Do you think they will care if Trump goes after their constitutes who didn’t vote for him...

That doesn’t include GOP congressman in very safe districts where Trump support was very weak?

If Trump can beat Hillary, he’s got a whole let new set of challenges...to get Congress to go along with his objectives...

There are lots of dems who dont want to make America great again....

Pretty good speech by Trump. He needs to pay more attention to detail because his pronunciation of Tanzania could lead people to believe he doesn’t know much about much of the world.

This was absolutely Reaganesque.

After hearing this speech delivered, no one can say Donald Trump is not articulate nor erudite, but rather clear, strong and forceful.

I can personally vouch that everything he said about the rest of the world disrespecting the United States is absolutely true, including our allies. Donald knows that the surest and fastest way to gain respect is to require all parties to put money into the pot. If that is not done, then the lone donor is looked at as if they are clueless and stupid.

Of course he has great speechwriters around him. That is what CEOs do and what he will do for this country.

Trump should expand upon his comments about making allied nations fund their own defense by explaining that the U.S. has essentially been funding Europe's bloated welfare state by defending them. If they had to pay their own defense costs, they wouldn't be able to divert those funds toward creating socialist "Utopias." Relieving them of their defense burden also makes it easier for them to unfairly compete with us, via efforts such as their subsidizing of EADS, the consortium that produces Airbus aircraft and competes with Boeing, just as one example. We certainly should not be essentially paying for foreign companies to take business from our own manufacturers. That's exactly the type of thing Trump alludes to when he says that our leaders have been stupid about trade. He's right.

One caveat I would offer, though, is that we should be careful to maintain our nuclear umbrella that protects allied nations like Japan, South Korea, etc. Were we to totally withdraw from protecting those countries they would likely develop their own nuclear arsenals, increasing the likelihood of their use and complicating non-proliferation efforts.

Reminds me very much of George Washington’s views about foreign policy as he described in his Farewell Address in 1796.

He has more to say but this is the essence of his advice about international relations:

Sympathy for the favorite Nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest, in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels and wars of the latter, without adequate inducement or justification. It leads also to concessions to the favorite Nation of privileges denied to others, which is apt doubly to injure the Nation making the concessions; by unnecessarily parting with what ought to have been retained; and by exciting jealousy, ill-will, and a disposition to retaliate, in the parties from whom equal privileges are withheld. And it gives to ambitious, corrupted, or deluded citizens, (who devote themselves to the favorite nation,) facility to betray or sacrifice the interests of their own country, without odium, sometimes even with popularity; gilding, with the appearances of a virtuous sense of obligation, a commendable deference for public opinion, or a laudable zeal for public good, the base or foolish compliances of ambition, corruption, or infatuation.

Early on I found a description of how extremely brilliant people often ramble His speach patterns fit the pattern.

It's not so much that they ramble, but that they constantly see all sorts of connections they could make and constantly have to choose what direction to take. I don't know if Trump is brilliant, but he definitely sees a whole helluva lot more than people give him credit for. He must scratch his head, because he wins and wins and wins and then watches people ask "do you think he knows what he's doing"? Lol!
