Report: 'Significant portion' of NFL thinks Patriots didn't deflate footballs
CSN ^ | April 26, 2016 | Phil Perry

More than a year after the Deflategate saga began, one report says that there are teams across the league who have now changed their tune and believe the Patriots did nothing wrong.

According to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, executives, coaches and players that he spoke to believe that the NFL got its investigation wrong and that the Patriots never cheated. That opinion represents a complete 180-degree turn for some of the same folks who, according to Freeman, high-fived inside team facilities when they first heard about the Deflategate punishment.

There are reams of info on this subject for & against....the facts that matter to me most are that the NFL lied coming out of the gate about the PSI numbers & let those lies stand; along with the fact that different measurements & times were used for testing the balls that evening.

If the science is wrong, or not even addressed, then the whole case is not legit IMO...and that’s aside from the politics of the other teams pressuring the league to slam New England because they felt that they got off light for other infractions.

The Pats scored more points AFTER the under-inflated balls were changed.

Some advantage. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Then run for the Senate, and end their Tax exempt status, and lobby for teams to repay the cost to build their Civic Stadiums or pay higher rent.

Do it Tom!

No the real point is you want article III courts sticking their noses in football. The decision was correct. It is not the courts business.

They wanted something to distract from how bad officiating was deciding games. This then snowballed on them.

“No the real point is you want article III courts sticking their noses in football. The decision was correct. It is not the courts business.”

That could not be more untrue.

Suspensions and penalties are regularly appealed. That is part of the law. Have you ever heard of Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson or the many other NFL players who appeal penalties from the Commissioner?

If you think the Tom Brady case is the only time penalties have been appealed and the only time courts are “sticking their noses” into NFL rulings you need to learn more.

The Colts complained before the game. Which is really the moment this whole thing went off the rails. They asked the league to make sure the Pats didn’t monkey with the balls, and instead of changing the procedure from that day forward (as they’ve now done) to make sure nobody can monkey with them they FIRST decided to setup this half-assed sting operation where they measured the balls at halftime so they could catch the Pats after the fact. And the rest is a historic waste of time.

The NFL is already mapping out some alternative process for doling out future discipline. Either they are going to lose this case on further appeal, or the Players Association is never, ever going to agree to that language in the CBA again.

It's possible that Brady in fact did no wrong. This time. Personally I think he did. But that notwithstanding, the righteous indignation from him is hard to take given his prior involvement in epic cheating that he got away with. And like I said, some will argue he didn't know and simply benefited from the coaches rotten ways but he was directly involved with a second radio frequency in his helmet so the coaches could talk to him directly even during plays to point out open receivers! This was discovered because the Steelers overheard the second frequency due to crosstalk and Doug Flutie confirmed he picked up a Patriots helmet during a game and heard it as well. Brady not only knew, he participated. And he got away with it because the league covered it up for him. So his holier than thou act now is very irritating.

I don’t need to learn any more about you Detective. You want activist courts putting their ample noses where they do not belong. It is not the courts place to decide on the merits. Period.

“Had the parties wished to allow for more expansive discovery, they could have bargained for that right,” the court wrote. “They did not, and there is simply no fundamental unfairness in affording the parties precisely what they agreed on.”

No I do not.

But the Commissioner’s decisions have often been appealed and will continue to often be appealed. That will continue.

They’re not losing this case on further appeal (Brady probably won’t appeal, he restructured his contract so it’s almost all signing bonus and the suspension costs him basically nothing, and if he appeals further he’ll lose because the CBA says Goodell can do what he wants). And this CBA is still good for another 5 years, given turnover in the NFL that means most of the players voting on the next CBA won’t even remember this case and will gladly sign away their punishment rights for cash. That’s what happened last time, they wanted to reduce Goodell’s punishment power and Goodell offered them a higher percentage of the revenue instead. Very few players get in trouble with the league, all the players would like to make more money, the 99% of players that are pretty sure they’ll never get in trouble will always vote for more money.

The reason they’ve already started changing the punishment procedure is Goodell realized that having all the power gets him all the blame. Having a panel (selected by the league and PA), that doles out punishment and a different panel (again selected by both sides) that hears appeals keeps him from having to answer questions about how coldcocking your girlfriend in an elevator is only worth 2 games. Goodell figured out real quick during the Ray Rice mess that foisting stuff off on other people (and how lucky was he to get a female judge) means never having to explain why that guy is back already.

I'm a Bills fan. I hate the Dolphins and the Patriots.

But this is bogus. The Patriots won the second half, when the balls were properly inflated.

Total BS.

That said, I'm glad Brady will miss the first Bills game. What was interesting is that Brady renegotiated his salary down for next year in anticipation of the fine. Great move!

I have no problem with penalties for the Patriots or any other team if they violate the rules.

But in this case Goodell was dishonest from the beginning. He leaked false information to the media. He sponsored the fraudulent Wells Report. He acted as opponent and arbitrator at the same time and changed the evidence, the rules and the charges as he went along.

Tom Brady is extremely wealthy as is his wife.

I know this suspension will not hurt him.

But as someone who is a fan of football I am sick of watching Goodell screw everything up.

From forcing the Rams to draft Michael Sam and promoting the homosexual agenda to screwing up with the replacement Refs to stupid punishment for Adrian Peterson, Tom Brady and others Goodell is screwing up the game.

When the wimps at the Colts organization first made these accusations, the first thing I thought of were the officials. Who handles the ball(s) more than the Center and the QB? And yet none of the officials ever brought this up in the previous decades? Please.

“Don’t like the ruling, quit watching the NFL.”

It will be less fun to watch without Brady playing.

There is no proof of this second frequency stuff, none. It was never adjudicated, or even brought up by the league in any legal capacity. It was a rumor about something Doug Flutie said. it’s all unproven noise.
