A tanker from Louisiana loaded with U.S. natural gas is en route to Portugal, the first shipment in a trade relationship that could shake up the European market.
The 970-foot long Creole Spirit, carrying liquefied natural gas, is expected to arrive by the end of April, according to shipping data and people familiar with the matter.
In Europe, American gas will add to a swell in supply in a crowded market long dominated by Russia. Analysts predict that the arrival of U.S. gas could trigger a price war, leading to lower prices for consumers that could act as a shot in the arm for the struggling European economy.

The American exporters will be bankrupt soon.
I’m betting corruption rules the day. Europeans have been refining it for over a thousand years. Of course, Americans have been working hard over the last century to catch up!
As far as lower prices acting “as a shot in the arm for the struggling European economy”, that’s laughable. Any funds freed up to the common man will be immediately sucked up by European taxes.
Only good thing that could come out of this is revenue coming into the United States. Europe is beyond hope.
Something about this bothers me. It says US gas shipments but who actually owns the companies....and that’s one big footprint to get it there.
Meanwhile, on the Pacific coast, an LNG tanker departs Washington every 8-10 days for China, carrying approx 1.5 million gallons of butane and 1.25 million gallons of propane.
So why is this Atlantic shipment news?
In a free market face off, your analysis has considerable merit.
I'd suspect China.
They are competing with existing pipelines, Chinese shipments are not.
It says in the article. Changer Energy, a company that trades on the NYSE, is selling the lng to a Portuguese firm.
We need to stop all energy exports. This is stupid. We send the raw materials and they send us fished goods. That is text book mercantilism. We are being colonized people.
Often the Russians didn't get paid, I expect the European insiders expect (and have bribed for) an even better deal from the US.
Correction: Chaniere Energy
But the cliamtey!
The exporter is Cheniere Energy, of Houston, TX. the buyer is Portugal's Galp Energia.
Before long, LNG exports will depart from Dominion's Cove Point on the Chesapeake Bay. That will help unload all the Pennsylvania fracked gas.
Would Russia find exporting our US Nat Gas a provocative act to yet worsen the Russian economy?
Have you figured out if Obola has been really tweeting the bear’s nose, or if it’s all for show because of his 2012 hot mic statement indicating collaboration after his reelection?
Do you think we’ll ever get into a hot war against an allied Russia-China force?
Instead the crony capitalists are selling our natural resources to the highest bidder.
It’s “nice” to know I have to compete with the Chinese for propane to keep my house warm in the winter.
How many propane gallons would I need to replace NG heating in lat 45deg Winter?
NG is the best and cheapest form of heat there is. You’d be crazy to go from NG to propane. Propane sucks.
