I most heartily agree with you on the policing of these things. Nobody’s been asking for IDs, nobody’s been X-raying pants.
However, a very sensitive nerve in the public sensibilities has been located. Trump kind of fumbled on that. He went all pragmatic. In doing so, he just dissed the final fig leaf left to America.
As a Christian I know I’m a sinner. Becoming Christian doesn’t mean poof, instant heavenly saint. It means entering a promise and being the recipient of a gift that will end up in my being able to live in heaven instead of the hell which would otherwise be the only place suited for me.
America, mostly, saw Christian as not this, but as meaning to display an arbitrary level of virtue. And I think we just discovered what that was.
Excellent point.
Why is it, that the Left continues to succeed every four years in this regard? This is "Rules for Radicals" Rule #4: "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules". They did it to us back in '12 with contraception. What's the purpose? Not to raise the issue for discussion, but as a "gotcha" for our candidates, and to keep us from concentrating on the REAL issues that are affecting this nation.
Sure Trump blew it. He's now trying to walk away from stepping into it. And Cruz, instead of saying "Yes, this is important, but let's stay focused on what is really hurting our nation," jumped right into it to score some cheap political chops.
But more to the point, Republicans are falling into the Left's sleazy ploy all over again, only this time it's Potties instead of contraception.
We never learn.
