Oklahoma Approves Bill to Suspend the Medical Licenses of Any Doctor Who Does Abortions

A bill headed to Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin’s desk this week would strip abortionists of their medical licenses and basically outlaw abortions in the state.

The bill describes an abortion as “unprofessional conduct” and prohibits Oklahoma medical licensure officials from renewing or granting licenses to doctors who do abortions, except to save the mother’s life, according to the Washington Post. The state House passed the bill on Thursday in a strong, bipartisan vote; and the Oklahoma Senate passed it in March, LifeNews reported.

Oklahoma state Sen. Nathan Dahm, who sponsored the measure, said the purpose is to protect unborn babies’ lives. Abortion activists are threatening to challenge the measure, but Dahm and state Rep. David Brumbaugh, who co-sponsored the measure in the House, staunchly defended the legislation.

“Do we make laws because they’re moral and right, or do we make them based on what an unelected judicial occupant might question or want to overturn? The last time I looked, that’s why I thought we had a separation of power,” Brumbaugh said. “It’s not about policy. It’s not about politics. It’s about principle.”

A few pro-abortion lawmakers spoke out against the bill prior to the vote. Here’s more from the report:

Several Democrats, outnumbered roughly 2-to-1 in the House, pushed back against the bill in debate on Thursday, suggesting it was misguided and unconstitutional.

Rep. Emily Virgin (D) asked the bill’s House co-sponsor Rep. David Brumbaugh (R) about a statement from the Oklahoma State Medical Association, which said it took no position on abortion but did oppose the legislation on the grounds that it overrode physician judgment.

“We already have a severe physician shortage in Oklahoma, so are you at all concerned about physicians leaving Oklahoma if this bill becomes law,” Virgin asked.

Brumbaugh said he didn’t expect it to have an effect on doctor retention because it only affects those who perform abortions. “There’s no way that this will impact the medical community, and we’ve checked through that,” he said.

Fallin, who is pro-life, has not indicated whether she will sign the bill, Reuters reports. She faces intense pressure to reject the bill from national pro-abortion groups including Planned Parenthood and the Center for Reproductive Rights, Breitbart reports. On Saturday, Planned Parenthood attacked the Oklahoma legislators on Twitter:

The Center for Reproductive Rights, a New York-based abortion group, is threatening to file a lawsuit if the measure becomes law. Unfortunately, abortion activists’ legal challenges could succeed in overturning the legislation.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade that states cannot restrict a woman’s so-called right to abortion. Given the current U.S. Supreme Court justices’ records, the Oklahoma legislation likely would be struck down and Roe upheld. After the recent death of pro-life Justice Antonin Scalia, the high court is more likely than ever to strike down pro-life laws.

Because of Roe, American abortion laws line up with human rights abusive countries like China and North Korea in their permissiveness of abortion. The U.S. is one of four countries in the world to allow late-term abortions for any reason. Most other countries have laws restricting or banning abortion. The deadly decision has allowed more than 58 million unborn babies’ lives to be unjustly taken in the past 43 years.

Roe, a decision made by nine male justices in 1973, stands in the way of life-protecting laws that most Americans support. That’s why overturning the deadly decision Roe v. Wade has been a key strategy of pro-life groups for decades.

God bless OK.

Meanwhile I got excoriated by a bunch of eugenicists on another thread for complaining about the rape exception to abortion. I guess the people of OK are just as guilty as I am in believing a person’s a person, no matter how small.

It will be overturned by a court before the ink is dry on the governor’s signature.

But, at least they’ve given Democrats another issue to bang Republican candidates over the head with this election season.

It’s almost like they don’t really want to stop abortion, they just want to make it look like they do to pacify the base.

Yea I know about the “rape exception”. I’ll keep saying it, give the death penalty to the rapist NOT the innocent baby!

See how the Left rolls? Why can’t conservatives and the NRA sue local and state governments that pass anti-gun laws? CA is on the verge of passing even more restrictions that basically outlaws firearm possession, and not a peep from the NRA and the Stupid Party.

It infuriates me that abortion and homosexual marriage is settled law and debate is closed, yet leftists have no problem chipping away at the 2nd Amendment which is enshrined in our Founding.

I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art.

You know the companies refusing to go to North Carolina and Mississippi are companies we can do with out anyway.

Big freaking deal if they boycott.

You know what? This paves the way for new Christian companies to set up shop and do business. All the rest can just lose money over this.

Rape/Life of mother. Those would be *my* ONLY exceptions. Else, IMO, the former is tantamount to punishing the victim.

She best be given (paid by??) the best mental health possible in an effort to KEEP that baby from harm until birth/adoption/etc. That’s (can be/will be/maybe?) a lot of upkeep until...

A woman, whom MUST care of the child, and thus, reminded every min., of every day, until birth, of the hideous act?...or be jailed? Are We going to prosecute the woman if she turns to alcohol/drugs to get away from that nightmare? Falls down the stairs? The ol’ folk-remedies?

I’m sure they would...if they had anymore $$ after all the junk mail, solicitations and swag /semi-S

Just as much as these ‘think tanks from D.C.’ (Mark Levin/etc.) never seem to use the same techniques of the Left to do battle (IE: 14th A. v. Constitutional carry).

If they won, they’d have nothing to suck up the mega-$$$

It would be a cruel punishment to force a person to carry a baby which was the product of a violent rape. Basically, you are saying that you should keep the rapist sperm in your body. Although I am against abortion, you are not going to have most people in this country agree to force a woman into a pregnancy after a violent rape.

A man rapes a woman and the baby gets the death sentence without a trial. That seems fair. /s
