Meet the Vigilantes Who Patrol Trump’s Rallies
POLITICO ^ | 4/25/2016 | M. Scott Mahaskey

Posted on 04/25/2016 4:49:48 AM PDT by McGruff

It was Friday night and Chris Cox was sitting at the No Name Saloon in Edgewater, Florida, planning a pro-Trump rally during Daytona Bike Week, when he looked up at the television in the bar. Protesters were clashing with Donald Trump’s supporters inside a packed Chicago arena, forcing the campaign to cancel the event and urge everyone to leave “in peace.”

“The TV comes on and there’s chaos and mayhem in Chicago and all we could do is shake our heads,” said Cox. “At that moment we couldn’t really see our role. We were in shock. But over the next couple days we heard cries from our other members. ‘Can you come to this rally? Can you come to that rally?’”

Cox decided that his 30,000-member group, “Bikers for Trump,” would no longer be just a support organization focused primarily on holding independent rallies for the Republican front-runner. It would transform into a volunteer security force, patrolling Trump’s events to identify protesters for paid security and police, forming barriers to protect Trump supporters, and playing backup to the cops as they removed unwanted attendees from the campaign’s rallies.

And the campaign has taken notice. Cox has arranged for VIP tickets for members of his group — which is heavy on veterans — at several Trump campaign rallies and said that he has helped the campaign find bikers to fill the seats allotted to it for the Republican presidential debates in Houston in February and Coral Gables, Florida, in March.

Shows of support have turned into shows of force. At one campaign rally earlier this month in Albany, Cox said he brought several dozen bikers to line up in a “protective barrier” between protesters and Trump supporters in line outside. He declined to get into the specifics of exactly who he coordinated with on the campaign and how, but said the campaign is aware of his security efforts.

Vigilantes have an honorable history, for the most part, even though the left hurls it as an insult. When established law enforcement can't or won't do its job, vigilante groups often step into the breech.

There are a lot of town who got law and order from official sources AFTER vigilante groups were organized. Those vigilante groups who operate outside of the law rather than in support of it are the exception, not the rule.

Great Stuff! Bikers for Trump will be VERY important in Donald’s California rallies. There are more crazies in California than anywhere else.

Planned protestors have no fear of law enforcement and go out of their way to incite violence knowing full well there will be little retaliation.

It's a great idea, I think the protestors will think twice about starting any crap......

As a side note, the Hell's Angels at Altamont were a known rogue and violent group of bikers who should in no way be compared to the Bikers for Trump......

Are you saying that the Bikers for Trump are “crazies”?

Because “bikers” are all automatically bad people, not worthy of respect or protection by the law.

I learned that in Waco!

I was thinking of the Rolling Stones problem with Hell’s Angels providing security at Altamont too.

99% of bikers today are good citizens. It only takes one bad apple (that may or may not be planted by the left) to cause big problems, but I am still happy that average Americans are not sitting idly by and watching the goons from the left do their dirty work.

Nope. I am sayoing that Bikers for Trump will be sorely needed in California, which has a very well organized anarchist movement egged on by the radical left, the crazies whom I referred to.

Otherwise please accept my apologia for lack of clarity.

There is another fantastic motorcycle gang tobe used as an example.

Malcom Forbes led the gang called the Capitalist Tools.

I think this is great. Bikers continue to get a bad rap. People automatically assume "Hells Angels" or that popular TV show about biker gangs ("Sons of Anarchy").

Fact is, over 90% of the bikers you see travelling together on weekends are just regular folks. These are hard working Dads with families, some of whom have suit-and-tie jobs during the week. Stockbrokers, bankers, doctors, lawyers, etc., as well as blue collar workers.

These men tend to be patriots and conservatives. The backbone of America. Won't see many of them collecting welfare or whining about being victims. Even though they themselves are discriminated against and looked down upon by Americans who should know better.

Yes, they can look mean and menacing when they travel in groups. And yes, you don't want to mess with them (why would you?). But they are some of the nicest people you will run into. They are the ones most likely to help you with a flat tire or get you assistance when your car breaks down. They are the ones who typically rally to the cause when there is a local charity event or a crisis in the community.

Donald Trump is well protected at the rallies by his Secret Service detail but I'm glad to see that these bikers have the backs of the rally goers.

Whenever the government refuses to enforce the law, law abiding citizens will take the law in to their own hands. It’s why we have the 2nd amendment, vigilanteism is the end result.

I support vigilantism.

The only trouble with this type of thinking is that when does it end? Sure, they are protecting rallies now and cracking down on leftists, but will it stop there? maybe crack some cruz supporters on the head at voting booths. I am sure those NBP people thought themselves as Vigilantes when they scared away white voters in Philly.

I’ll fall back on a quote I created here a few years ago.

“A people unwilling to use extreme violent force to obtain or preserve their liberty deserves the tyrants that rule them.”
