Cruz participated in individual events and won a championship between a small number of schools in the US and Canada. He was not on any championship two-man debate teams that participated in the National Debate Tournament (NDT). Somewhat like calling yourself a college football star without never having played in an NCAA game.

Interesting...

Maybe that’s where he developed the mythical properties of Cubanadian ju-jitsu?

I’ll give Cruz this though. He, along with Reagan and Newt, are the only Republicans who will reject the Left’s premises and narratives, and completely destroy their talking points. He will hand you your @ss in a debate.

I believe he was in the parliamentary debate circuit, as opposed to the "on topic" stuff. Those ARE two man teams. I was in parliamentary debate, the "small number of schools" are Yale, Harvard, McGill, U of Toronto, U of Chicago, Amherst, Annapolis, Princeton, Smith, and also small unheralded northeastern schools (Pace, PRI). There's also the world championships, which is usually held in places like Scotland.

I would consider the parliamentary style better preparation for a political setting than the "on topic" style with the stacks of index cards (if that's what you are referring to). To use the college football analogy, the parliamentary style would be more like a college team with a pro-style offense, where the "on topic" style would be more like a Nebraska type team that does well, but does not prepare quarterbacks for the pro game so well (see Eric Crouch).

Better yet it's like saying "going to military school is like serving in the military?"

This topic has to be one of the most ridiculous of all time for what used to be a very worthy conservative news collection and opinion sharing site.

And the comment that Ted Cruz wasn’t a national debate champion has to be lamest of them all. Seriously? Who the heck cares? I don’t care who you support - but at least keep some dignity when you post.

Seriously, all of you on this thread need to look at your posts for what they are - ridiculous.
