Let’s say this was a heterosexual marriage. Would anyone not find this extremely weird - and plausibly a sign of mental illness? Mental illness is a form of entertainment, and has been for thousands of years.
It's just that now the distribution channels are enormously more efficient.
Instead of watching the town flake caper about in the dust in some vacant lot off Main Street, now we watch him (or her) on ten thousand cable channels and ten million YouTube videos.
