Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton hold double-digit leads in the April 26 primary contest of Pennsylvania, according to results from a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll.

In the Republican race, Trump gets support from 45 percent of likely Republican primary voters in the state — followed by Ted Cruz at 27 percent and John Kasich at 24 percent.

Trump performs the best among those who strongly support a candidate (getting support from 57 percent from that group), men (52 percent), those without a college degree (52 percent) and those in the Northeast part of the state (52 percent).

He performs the worst among college graduates (37 percent), women (39 percent), white evangelicals (40 percent — but still leading Cruz's 36 percent) and in the Philadelphia suburbs (38 percent — leading Kasich's 34 percent).

I think you misunderstand what is going on. Most of those delegates that Cruz is supposedly stealing are still bound to Trump on the first ballot. Trump winning on the first ballot will render all this other second ballot nonsense moot. Also, Cruz would need to steal about 600 second ballot delegates while holding Trump under 1237. It now looks like worse case scenario for Trump is 1200 delegates which means that Trump needs to find 37 while Cruz needs to find 600.

I'm not defending in any way whatsoever what Cruz is doing but it's not going to amount to a hill of beans and Cruz is basically showing himself to be a petty person who puts his own personal ambition ahead of what is good for party and nation.

What worries me is that Cruz and his establishment friends are playing more than just a 2nd ballot game. If he can steal it, it will happen in the credentials committee.

If Trump rolls into the convention right near 1237, look for them to try to disqualify just enough delegates to force a second ballot.

Huge wins this Tuesday, along with Indiana, then a California sweep would put this to bed.

Typical Cruz supporter. Your guy can’t win anywhere so mock people in states where other’s do well. Cruz would have trouble breaking 150 EV’s in a General election.

I'm not mocking anybody. I'm merely acknowledging reality, which, incidentally, is what Trump appears to have been doing this past week. Kowtowing to the "moderates." It worked so well with Dole, McCain and Romney. Ah, but unlike those three, Trump has the conservatives tucked neatly in his pocket, so in his case it really doesn't matter.

No, it isn’t rigged. If a campaign lets people know which delegates to vote for or if the voters are informed, there’s no issue. This has been the Pennsylvania system for decades.

I've also given though to the scenario you put forth in #24. And perhaps if Cruz was a stronger candidate and the gap between him and Trump was much smaller, I could see the GOP getting away with it.

However Trump has been rolling up some impressive victories in battleground states that are key to the GOP's success in November. Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Michigan, Nevada, NY and as of Tuesday, Pennsylvania. Throw in New Jersey and California which I expect Trump to also do very well in later on.

The only battleground states that Trump did not win was Wisconsin and Ohio. As well as Cruz did in Wisconsin, it's very doubtful he'd be able to beat Clinton there in November. Same in Ohio (which Cruz finished third in).

The entire Deep South went for Trump. With the exception of caucus Maine, the entire Northeast looks to be solid Trump. So east of the Mississippi, Cruz is very, very weak and that should give the GOP and credentials committee pause with regard to tampering with the rules to keep Trump from a first ballot victory.

They are coming to the realization that they are better off with Trump and I believe they will in the end make their peace with Trump and give him their full support for the general election.

I’m voting in PA on tuesday, and I’m hoping Trump exceeds the poll estimates here. They said 100,000 democratics changed their party to Republican this year in PA and set a record by far.

Stop digging. You sound like an drooling moron. Cruz is losing almost everywhere. Acceptance will help you not look so petty and stupid.

As far as I understand, Evangelical is a broad term for born again Christian. But again, that means many things to many people. I guess for political purposes it means “very religious” as in how pwoplw would describe themselves.

To your other point, I’m in Morris County, NJ and Trump will win this state in a landslide, 60+ percentage. Hillary will probably take NJ this Fall, but Trump will make it competitive all the same.

Thanks for shedding some light on the "Evangelical" description. Other than during election time, I never hear that term. Here in the Northeast, Christians are essentially divided between Catholic and Protestant. When I was down South, it was basically all Baptist. For example, much of my family is "Primitive Baptist" and never once did they refer to themselves as "evangelical." So I'm just wondering the origins of that description, especially as it has such significance in this year's election cycle.

With regard to New Jersey, you know better than I, but I consider that a winnable state by Trump due to the fact that Chris Christie has been a popular governor there and has endorsed Trump. However, I know the Newark area is going to be probably 90% for Shrillary and difficult to overcome.

Put him one-on-one with Trump in those states and see how the results turn out. Trump is a wishy-washy moderate, but he's got the salesmanship, combined with the skills of a first-rate swindler, to turn certain people away from their principles and toward the strong-man form of statism that's been practiced by Obama since the beginning of his first term. He's a slick, unprincipled roué, craftily playing the field of sweet, innocent lasses who know perfectly well where their moral sensibilities lie but can't transcend the emotional needs that carry them away.

And when the morning comes, and the sweet light of love is still glowing in your eyes, he'll call you a slut, pull up his pants, and leave you to pick up the pieces as best you can.

They're not bad people at all. Why would you suppose I think that? The bulk of them (Republicans) are on the left-hand side of moderate. That doesn't make you a bad person. To a conservative it might make you a misguided person, but that's the extent of it.

Sorry, but your guy had his chance. It's been pretty much a one-on-one race since the Florida primary (Kasich, you really consider him a contender?) and Cruz continues to get his head handed to him.

OK, except for Wisconsin, I'll give Cruz Wisconsin.
