Certainly if the vestige of the GOP exists in 2020 it can save the donors, the party, the states, and the candidates considerable money by not going through the charade of having primaries or a convention. The top 50 donors should just meet at an exclusive resort (not a Trump resort) or in the boardroom at Goldman Sachs, and pick the nominees.
Well after all, that’s what they will have wound up doing this year. (if that comes to pass)
Just eliminate the primaries and caucuses and make the call. The outcome will not have changed.
