Respectfully, those two things are not mutually exclusive.
In fact, in most cases B) led to A); not being grounded in conservative principle, they were primed to take Trump’s bait.
That portion of the electorate which is “grounded in conservative principles” as you put it is a rapidly shrinking piece of the pie.

We NEED the old Reagan Democrats back in the coalition if we are to avoid a disastrous Hillary or Bernie Presidency.
