Trump: I would change GOP platform on abortion
CNN ^ | 04/21/16 | David Wright

Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.

"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"

"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

This is exactly the same position of every Republican presidential candidate since Reagan, who, after legalizing widespread, pervasive abortion in California as governor (which he later deeply regretted), took the position of limiting the exception to health-of-mother only, nominally, but that included defacto exceptions for rape and incest.

Point: Since R v W, the Republican Party position has been the EXCEPTIONS position.

I am pro-life with no exceptions. BUT I also am a rational person who recognizes reality; anything other is the mental condition known as "magical thinking."

“We’re quiet because we have jobs and lives. I dont like chicks with dicks in the ladies room but Trump’s statement is not enough to get me to drop my support. On abortion, I would agree with him on these three exceptions.”

Thank you for confirming common sense.

And don’t forget how Hillary and Sanders got THREE TIMES more votes than were cast for Trump.

Yet Trump “won” New York. He is our Presumptive Nominee. Either support him or else.

At least those are the orders as of now. I’m sure more directives will be coming (hopefully) for those who cannot vote for a pro-choicer.

Me too. Losing Scalia just clinched it for the enemy (and the left is my sworn enemy). Even Reagan couldn’t guarantee that his pick would be truly conservative, and God knows, he tried, I believe. No one else is even going to try.

I totally agree.

I’ve often wondered if there was anything, anything that Trump could do which would cause any disquiet or discomfort or re-thinking of the trumpers.

There seems to be nothing.

His liberal side seeps out as he thinks he’s got this election sewed up and trumpers go right along.

Same can be said for Cruz supporters.

Now what?

That portion of the electorate which is “grounded in conservative principles” as you put it is a rapidly shrinking piece of the pie.

Go ahead and put Ted up there if you want. We’ll get our heads handed to us.

We NEED the old Reagan Democrats back in the coalition if we are to avoid a disastrous Hillary or Bernie Presidency.
And I’m convinced Trump can get ‘em for us.

It is not the canards of rape and incest, it is Trumps inability to deal with these canards adeptly. I mean the guy has managed to piss off the feminists and the pro lifers on the same issue.

Cruz favors limited government, cutting spending, repealing crap like Obamacare, rescinding BHO’s executive orders, following the law, turning welfare, education, and other social spending back to the states, abolishing the IRS, going to a reasonable flat tax, he also supports the FAIR Tax. I think this all a reasonable start. No major candidate is closer to the US Constitution than Ted Cruz. Certainly not Trump, Kasich, HRC, or BS.

Nope.

Name one health condition that mandates an abortion.

Ectopic pregnancies are not abortions btw.

The initial horror is the many decades of total neglect by Republicans and church going people on this issue.

Judges who are bad get elected and we see almost no presence by Christians in numbers protesting weekly.

Republicans, Christians and Jews have done nothing enough to fight this change to our country and have been too busy living daily lives instead.
THAT IS THE AMERICAN INITIAL HORROR, not Presidents who are made to follow current law.

Well, okay, he didn’t actually attack.

He said they made a mistake and are alienating people and he said transgendered people should be able to use the restroom of their choi

Thank you Altura. I admire your post.

What exactly is a “GOP Conservative”?

If Trump is one, I suspect that the phrase is something like “TOFU Steak Dinner.” If the dinner turns out to be devoid of meat in some cases, it is hard to prove false advertising, and one would not begrudge someone from eating it if they had no alternative, but one would also not begrudge those who referred to partake.

Cruz may very well be I RINO conservative, though it strikes me that at the end of the day he is mostly a lawyer.

If I need to be a hyphenated conservative, I’ll take Paleo.

A) They are suckers or B) They are not conservatives

There’s that holier than thou condescension that I can expect from anyone who dare not support St. Cruz.

Realist, might actually end partial birth aborts and abortions for profit. Any change will take the SCOTUS.

If Sen. Cruz said that everyone should be able to use whatever bathroom they feel like, I’d drop him like a hot potato.

Now what?

Transgender people should be able to use whatever bathroom they want, Donald Trump said Thursday.

“Oh, I had a feeling that question was going to come up, I will tell you. North Carolina did something that was very strong. And they’re paying a big price. There’s a lot of problems,” the Republican presidential candidate said during a town hall event on NBC’s “Today.”

Referring to comments from an unnamed commentator who on Wednesday said North Carolina should “leave it the way it is right now,” Trump said he agreed.

“Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they’re going through with all the business that’s leaving, all of the strife — and this is on both sides. Leave it the way it is,” he said, referring to companies that have canceled plans to move or expand businesses in the state as a result of the law, which bans transgender individuals from using a bathroom that does not match their gender at birth.

Typical disjointed crazy Trump comment but I think you get the gist.
