Trump: I would change GOP platform on abortion
CNN ^ | 04/21/16 | David Wright

Posted on 04/21/2016 10:32:44 AM PDT by writer33

Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.

"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"

"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

Really!! And he also attack North Carolina for the bathroom bill.

Here’s your conservative candidate, trumpers.

---------

Good - the GOP won't win on the bathroom issue. Move away from stuff like this and concentrate on issues that will have cross over appeal - wall - illegal aliens/Muslims - unfair trade.

the last 5 Republican nominees, Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain and Romney having the same exceptions? I don’t remember there being such an uproar.

Some of the noisier, showier hypocrites hereabouts are clutching their pearls so tightly, they're liable to end up garrotting themselves.

Not that I'm complaining, mind.

The GOP uses Abortion like a farmer uses a carrot to lure a mule. Get a hint, for 45 years they have done Nothing, and they will continue to do Nothing. The like having it as an issue, so they can play the ‘Family Values’ card, in actuality, they couldn’t care less.

I’ll say it plainly: morally speaking, Trump is an incoherent mess... and this just makes that fact a bit more clear for more people.

Do you really think the pro-life movement is going to find common ground with abortionists by adding incest and rape as reasons for allowing the murder of the pre-born? If so, you're delusional. The only way abortion is going to be stopped is for the courts and the public to finally decide to protect the rights of the pre-born.

Having a president that would champion life every day in office would certainly help on the side that needs to win hearts and minds. Having a president that would appoint justices to the USSC that see Roe V Wade for the flawed decision it is would also bring about change. However, sitting back and blaming the pro-life lobby for not advancing the pro-life movement is nothing more than advocating for the status quo and hoping that social issues go away.

You know why, dont play the idiot.

These people find willing pro aborts to reclassify everything to fall under the supposedly narrow definiton. Health of mom expanded to mean psychological, for example.

We are watching the Cruz people look stupid. This has been Trumps position for years. But the desperation of the Establishment trolls to elect Hillary is amusing.

"the 100% pro-life position is noble and logical. In the real world, it prevents the cause from making any real headway. Meanwhile, many millions more die, because we won't budge.

Noble but illogical when pregnancy by abuse cannot be settled between Dr. and patient.

For those who believe/insist in anatomical identity in public bathrooms...scream as loud as you can and keep screaming until the nit has cleared the premises.

Good luck, man. I’m in the same boat, wanting to de-emphasize the social component of the party in order to compete more. You’re about to get yelled at.

>> And Franklin Graham?

Contrary to popular belief, Franklin Graham has not endorsed Trump.

On the record, he discounts all men and “endorses” GOD alone.

Getting rid of 90+ percent of abortions is leftist?

No. But giving our explicit approval to up to 10% of abortions *IS* leftist... and morally inexcusable. There's absolutely no reason for Trump to work toward a watering-down of the GOP standards. What, are we now buying into the "if we're more moderate, then maybe some liberals will start liking us" idea? Blithering nonsense...

We do not have far more important things to worry about.

The moral fiber of our country is suffering right now because of the abortion culture.

If we become a soul-less culture what is there worth saving?

No flame from me. I've made the same argument several times.

"No exceptions" makes for beautiful position papers and flawlessly logical arguments.

It is a non-starter with the vast majority of the American public who see potentially devastating consequences to those they love.

Joe the Plumber is repulsed by the notion of a churchlady Bible-beater telling his daughter she has to give birth to that baby conceived by rape.

Again, I don't understand how so many prefer a 100% loss to a 90% win.
