It certainly is of vital importance, as an issue. It is also an opportunity for Trump to reduce negative impressions by explaining the underlying economic & social aspects.

And that’s why I don’t trust Trump ... he seems far too willing to make people too scared to cross him. I’ve had enough of living in a country where people are running scared from the government, and won’t really feel any better about it if the authoritarian-in-chief has an ‘R’ after his name instead of a ‘D’. Well, as a novice economist, I can not answer what happens to the market based on "may" without conjecture. In other words, please tell me how we get to a point that most wage earners only make $3 per hour.
Narco-Mexico versus Narco US. Take your pick the sellers or the consumers? Mexico should completely decriminalize the production of drugs. Why should they bear the brunt of our addiction?

So what. Companies (especially manufacturing companies with a lot of tooling) plan years in advance in supply chain and have to stay ahead of competition. If managed correctly, big moves are made when still profitable.

Sounds like they are a well-managed company whose board makes proactive decisions, but not relevant to the relevant questions:
How was the particular profitability of this line of A/C units doing?
Were lower-cost competitors poised to capture market share?
So now they should lower the price! Not gonna happen....

Tariffs make certain people rich in the country and the rest of us broke.
You would think Trumpers would look at Venezuela and see how great protectionism works, but I doubt they can make the intellectual leap.
LOL! As long as they can get their employees for a fraction of what Americans cost they'll continue to move offshore.
$3 or $5 is not important. Relative wages are declining particularly at the middle level and below. Corporations are trying to reduce labor costs. Where I work they are farming out a greater portion of the spreadsheet work (which requires a much higher skill set than the average worker) to offshore because labor costs are 1/3 of what they are here. Many of the trade workers pay is down as well. I deal with groups of physicians and they complain their compensation is down. With the reduced income workers (or former workers) won’t have the income to purchase the products for companies like Carrier. It is a vicious cycle where each company in turn cuts wages which reduces the available market for not only their own products but other products.
Not sure where the end is but having an increasing portion of the workforce not working creates social stresses.
Henry Ford increased pay for his workers partially because he recognized that he needed a market for his cars.
As if Cruz’s socialistic VAT tax will create nirvana. Carrier is not the only company that makes air conditioners.
Why not force the union to renegotiate to $3 an hour?
Carrier is using Mexico to increase their profits not go out of business.
What regulations are forcing them out?
