He needs to get right on this. I will, of course, vote for him in June but he needs to either think through these cultural issues or not speak out on them.

Why should he? YOU have absolutely no hold on him. He already has your vote; he couldn't care less what you think of him.
Politicians want exactly two things from us: our money and our votes. And most of us don't have enough money for that to matter, so it's down to the vote. A politician who is guaranteed your vote doesn't care what you think of him, or what body part you're holding when you vote. He already has all he wants.
