Living for nearly half a century in the United States offers no guarantee that one can stay.

That is the reality facing Cuban exile activist Ramon Saul Sanchez, leader of the Democracy Movement, who received a letter Thursday from the federal government....

I know Ramon Sanchez is not well known by many here, but he is a Cuban who has lived here many years and has been a leading voice for freedom in Cuba....needless to say, he isn't a DEMOCRAT.

Well, his politics has caught up with him. Keep in mind, Raul isn't a murderer or a rapist--he is a freedom activist. He also has been going through the legal procedure to stay permanently in the nation.

Naturally, Obama hates him and wants him out.

If he converts to Islam and offers to rape and murder
Americans, the White Mosque, the DO”J”
and the useless (except for terrorists and criminals)
DH”S” will compete .... to protect him.

“He also has been going through the legal procedure to stay permanently in the nation.”

The article says that he applied for permanent residency in 2002, ~40 years after he arrived here, and that his application was denied.

Denied by the Bush admin in the ~6 years remaining, or the current admin?

Uh-huh. Also keep in mind that he was a member of Omega 7, one of the most active terrorist groups in the U.S. in the 1980s, and that he served almost 5 years in prison for refusing to testify before a grand jury about the activities of Omega 7.

But by all means, let's weep for the now former terrorist.

Don’t know the back story. He has been a fixture in the community for many years. Always seemed to be sincerely interested in advocating change in Cuba.

I dunno....Always thought these older Cuban guys were wanting to overthrow Castro. Don’t think I’d call them TERRORISTS in the sense we think of them today.

Well, after he left prison, he did renounce violence in favor of civil disobedience. (He and his new group used to do things like sit down and block the MacArthur Causeway back in the 90s.) But Omega 7 killed people and bombed places in Miami and the NY area in the late 70s and early 80s. That’s terrorism today, tomorrow, and yesterday.

In the Gestapo atmosphere created by the current administration anyone drawing a mustache on a Michelle Obama poster would be identified as a domestic terrorist.

It’s not too late for Trump to call for the people to overthrow of the regime. He should have Cruz and Rubio standing beside him. Let the Castro’s die watching their dream die. Be a disturber of the excrement and let Obama deal with it.

Has he tried any of the accepted means of getting legal status, such as converting to Islam, claiming transgender status, or giving a large sum of money to the Clinton Foundation?

From wikipedia:

Omega 7 was a small Cuban paramilitary group based in Florida and New York made up of Cuban exiles whose stated goal was to overthrow Fidel Castro. The group had fewer than 20 members.

In 1983, the leader of the group was reported to be Eduardo Arocena.[1]

Omega 7 formed in the early 1960s. Omega 7 is now said to be disbanded, with some of its leaders imprisoned in the United States. Omega 7 is considered a terrorist organization by the Cuban government. According to the FBI, its members are mostly Bay of Pigs veterans trained in demolition, intelligence, and commando techniques. Omega 7 operated internationally but is said to have carried out most of its attacks in the USA; these were mainly car bombings and direct assassinations, most of them done in a manner very difficult to trace.

These paramilitary groups have been accused of plotting and carrying out numerous assassinations of Cuban communist political leaders, spies, and supporters, as well as attacks on Cuban airliners, Cuban government-run hotels, embassies, and ships. During their most active years (1960s-80s) Omega 7, like other anti-Castro movements, were seen favorably by many Cubans in exile and anti-communists.

I suspect because he considered himself Cuban and part of Cuba’s legitimate “government in exile”.

I thought of that, true for many Cuban exiles, even those not involved in activism as well. Felt that obtaining US citizenship would be an insult to their country.

His membership in Omega 7 and his conviction on Federal charges would explain the denial of his application for permanent residency.

No matter how righteous the cause, associating with groups that blow shite up and kill people in the US is not likely to endear oneself to the INS.

While paroled to the US they remain at the pleasure of the AG, I suspect that it was the Bush admin that denied his application.

He should have gotten the CIA approval in writing, he probably was naive enough to believe that they would honor their agreements with him.

(Note for NSA monitors - I don't have any actual information about his involvement with the CIA, we're just speculating here.)
