Damond Dawson was "goofing around" with his brother and other relatives and friends, rapping and shooting video in Foster Park when two gunmen opened fire early Tuesday, killing Dawson and wounding four others, according to police and relatives.
“Basically like an ambush," said Dawson's aunt, Angela Mathis-Tate, 44. “One coming west of the park and one coming south."
The shooting happened around 2:20 a.m. as Dawson, 23, and a small group were “rapping around (taking) selfies with their phones” at Foster Park at 1440 W. 84th St, according to relatives.
Dawson was shot once in the back of the head and collapsed in the middle of the park, between a building and a playground. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
A 19-year-old woman was shot twice in the groin area and was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Three other men took themselves to the same hospital: a 20-year-old man shot nine times in the leg and shoulder, a 25-year-old man grazed in the leg and an 18-year-old man grazed in the back. Some witnesses said the group was staging a party scene for a video titled “Two Tecs and a 50 Shot,” but Mathis-Tate said they were just having some fun in the park.
“He was really, you know, just goofing around, playing like he could rap a little bit,” she said. “He wasn’t no rapper. He was a newcomer just trying to say some lyrics.” He sometimes went by the name “Thugga,” according to family and friends.
Foster Park is trouble at night when gang members feud with those on the other side of Ashland Avenue, Mathis-Tate said.
“It’s always drama up there. Nothing but drama … I told my nephew, please don’t be going up to that park,” she said. “They say, ‘We’re not, we’re not,’

That’s the key. I just Googled that address and it actually looks pretty nice. At 2:30 in the morning in a rough neighborhood anything can, and did happen.
Apparently none of these kids had to go work or school later that same morning.
These young people are products of their environment, and their culture. ‘Thugging’ is all they know. Not all black people, but the black ghetto is so dysfunctional, it’s just a shame...

My daughter and her husband had the three girls stay with us while they went to an old Girlfriend’s (unmarried)birthday party. The finale of the evening was an “Escape Room Experience” for them.
They all drove en masse to Atlanta, near Piedmont and West Peachtree I think to experience the ‘fun’. Unfortunately my daughter and SIL were driving their 2016 Black Beauty Corvette.......They had clinched sphincters all night.
I told them (after they survived and laughing) “If you’d let me know I’d have told you not to take that car.” She wholly agreed.
I told her where she went was probably one of THE worst places they could have been with a car that screamed ‘hijack me, mug me, rape me, kill me.’ She shook her head yes......
I finally told her that this “Escape Room” thrill would have been more realistic if they just took your $40 and then escorted you to a back door to the alley and said “Run for your life, motherf@cker” and then locked the door behind you.
They won’t be doing that again.
So she settled for Damond, huh?

I have to wonder how these fine young people can goof off, rap, take selfies and more at 2:20AM and still manage to get up early the next morning to go to work or school.
Amazing work ethic on their part, yes?
Wheres the rage they express when they think a white person shot their kid? Other blacks do it and oh well,....

So in this case really was an aspiring (and expiring) rapper!
Its a black thing..hang in the streets at night. Almost all of these “victims” would be alive if they were in bed at 2am instead of hanging in the streets. Especially the ones who KNOW they have enemies who want them dead. Someone should study the cultural aversion to being in bed at night.
