Trump’s Bully Pulpit
Wall Street Journal ^ | April 19, 2016 | editorial board

Posted on 04/19/2016 8:04:57 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Donald Trump says he wants to unite the Republican Party, but he keeps acting as if he’s mounting a hostile takeover. He’s now threatening to blow up the party’s July convention because he and his campaign were too lazy or inept to understand the 50 state nomination rules.

That’s the story behind Mr. Trump’s complaints that the party’s nominating rules are “rigged” against him. “It’s a crooked system. It’s 100% corrupt,” the front-runner howled on Sunday following a Friday op-ed on these pages making the same claims. He added on Sunday that he hopes a contested GOP convention in July “doesn’t involve violence.” Thanks for the warning.

Mr. Trump is upset that he’s being outhustled in winning delegates, and that he may fall short of the 1,237 he needs to win a majority in July. His latest embarrassment came at the Wyoming state convention on Saturday as Ted Cruz won the 14 delegates up for grabs. Mr. Cruz was the only candidate to show up in Casper, where he added to the nine (of 12 available) delegates awarded last month at county meetings. Mr. Trump, who said he didn’t want to “waste money going to Wyoming,” now claims Mr. Cruz won thanks to “party bosses.”

This is the same line the New Yorker leveled at the Colorado GOP, which also uses county and state conventions (rather than a popular vote) to elect delegates, and which recently awarded Mr. Cruz a delegate sweep. Yet both state processes were transparent and well known to all campaigns since last year.

In Wyoming’s case, “every presidential candidate for the last 40 years has managed this process and has worked through this process and has followed the process,” state GOP Chairman Matt Micheli told Fox News.

That is going to be hard since New York only has 95 delegates 744 + 95 does not equal 1237

No, they stammered a bit, when they explained their purpose. And I think they stammered on purpose.

The vote cheating is not to “further party ideals.” It’s to further party deals. Pork for you, and pork for me, and everyone’s happy! What could be wrong with that?

Don’t tell me that Trump’s vision isn’t better for the country than the Wall Street Journal and their cheap labor express or their editorials for ad money.

>>Don’t tell me that Trump’s vision isn’t better for the country...<<

I won’t bother to try. It would be wasted effort. As he himself said, he could shoot someone in broad daylight and not lose his voters. He knows you well.

>>...he tells them to look over there while he cheat in front of them.<<

It’s going to be interesting to see how all the golfers in the country respond to clips of Trump claiming that he’s a great golfer, a tremendous golfer, you know, juxtaposes with clips of people claiming he cheats incessantly at golf.

Are you unaware of how clearly many of the Republicans in Washington have betrayed the principles on which they were just reelected? The Trump supporters do not hate the party "ideals," they are simply fed up with the gutless, senseless but obvious betrayal of those ideals by a great many it what has come to be loosely described as the Republican establishment.

But to this extent, you might have a point--a point of sorts, if you deign to claim it. Trump supporters, generally, will put the idea of an American future ahead of any Party affiliation. America, as she was intended by the Founders, is more important than anything the pure politicians have ever had to offer.

If you like Cruz he’s whining; if you like Trump he’s strategically complaining loudly to get some benefit out of state he never had a chance in. Potatoe/potahto

I actually like his position that he knows how the game is played and if he wanted to he could be offering 757 rides and weekends at Mar-a-Lago, but he thinks it’s corrupt and wrong and he isn’t going to do it. And people say he has no principles.

The problem is a private organization should not be in a position to dictate the candidate to the citizenry. They have no right to do that! I don’t care how long they’ve been doing it. The Two Party System has got to go. (hey hey ho ho)

I think what they don’t get, the GOPe and their choices is, we don’t want their choices. We want them to go away. We want to see a lot off FRESH FACES in EVERY LEADERSHIP POST who hopefully will be willing to stand up to the bullies. There is going to have to be an “Aircraft Controllers Strike” moment when the new president says enough to the BLN/LGBQ/WHATEVER babies.

“The GOP is a private institution whose purpose is to nominate a candidate who can win an election to further party ideals.”

The GOP (and Dems) reimburses the states for the elections? If it doesn't then the parties are not private at all but just functionaries of the unigovt.

Defending heritage & future are not a game--not something you go through a few motions over, and then surrender.

We cannot--dare not--go on trusting those who continually betray us.

There are two kinds; Objective Truth, is true regardless of viewer, based on the
definitions of the words used. Many objective truths can be measured, but not all can. For
instance, concepts such as love or justice are true for everyone, based on the definitions of
the words. An example of Objective Truth is the statement, “Cats are quadrupeds.”
Subjective Truth, which varies from individual to individual, depending on that
individual’s beliefs and life experiences. An example of Subjective Truth is the statement,
“I love cats.”
Subjective truths are usually not worth arguing about, since they only affect the person
who holds them, and no one else.

BLAH BLAH BLAH SO IN OTHER WORDS IN SPITE OF THAT LONG PARAGRAPH AND TRYING TO LOOK INTELLIGENT YOU ARE FOR cRUZ..WHAY DID YOU NOT SAY THAT IN THE BEGINNING INSTAED OF ALL THAT HYPERBOLE HEH HEH Opinions are the conclusions that an individual forms regarding questions where the
truth is not yet plain, or is impossible to discern. Opinions can be formed about either
objective or subjective truth.
Many opinions concern the future. We can make predictions, based on what we know
about the present and the way things similar to this have played out in the past. But we
cannot know the future until we get there. So we form opinions, and argue about it.
We also form opinions about the motivations of people we don’t know, such as political
figures or celebrities, and about things that are on a continuum, such as whether or not a
particular person is moral, or if a window display is garish.
As a general rule, the opinions of others should not be lightly dismissed; especially the
opinions of those who disagree with you. But sometimes, the opinions are clearly off base.
As an example, exaggerated for clarity, think of the color of the sea at a white sand
beach in the Bahamas. You may think of it as blue. Someone else may call it blue-green, or
aqua, or turquoise. All of these are valid. But if someone says it’s “Cat.” and starts to dangle
a string in front of it, they are clearly way off base.
All opinions should be considered. But some will clearly be erroneous. Not all opinions
are equally valid.
Critical thinking will help you sort out the valid ones, and help you change your own so
that they become more valid.
