Trump’s Bully Pulpit
Wall Street Journal ^ | April 19, 2016 | editorial board

Donald Trump says he wants to unite the Republican Party, but he keeps acting as if he’s mounting a hostile takeover. He’s now threatening to blow up the party’s July convention because he and his campaign were too lazy or inept to understand the 50 state nomination rules.

That’s the story behind Mr. Trump’s complaints that the party’s nominating rules are “rigged” against him. “It’s a crooked system. It’s 100% corrupt,” the front-runner howled on Sunday following a Friday op-ed on these pages making the same claims. He added on Sunday that he hopes a contested GOP convention in July “doesn’t involve violence.” Thanks for the warning.

Mr. Trump is upset that he’s being outhustled in winning delegates, and that he may fall short of the 1,237 he needs to win a majority in July. His latest embarrassment came at the Wyoming state convention on Saturday as Ted Cruz won the 14 delegates up for grabs. Mr. Cruz was the only candidate to show up in Casper, where he added to the nine (of 12 available) delegates awarded last month at county meetings. Mr. Trump, who said he didn’t want to “waste money going to Wyoming,” now claims Mr. Cruz won thanks to “party bosses.”

This is the same line the New Yorker leveled at the Colorado GOP, which also uses county and state conventions (rather than a popular vote) to elect delegates, and which recently awarded Mr. Cruz a delegate sweep. Yet both state processes were transparent and well known to all campaigns since last year.

In Wyoming’s case, “every presidential candidate for the last 40 years has managed this process and has worked through this process and has followed the process,” state GOP Chairman Matt Micheli told Fox News.

The article goes on to say that the delegates are more likely to vote for Trump on a second ballot if he starts to poll better against Clinton. He should work on that instead of ranting about a rigged process.

No. THEY are acting as if Trump is mounting a hostile takeover.

And Cruzers should work on selling Cruz instead of hysterically ranting about “Trump violence” and making blacklists.

I’m not a 100% sure but Trump is smarter than this with all the whining he is doing, probably is a strategy to get TV time and it is working, he is constantly in the news.

Trump is complaining that people do not get to vote and have a say more than anything. This article totally misrepresents his position.

The way we can tell that Obama is part of the Establishment is that they never fought this hard against him.

He should work on that instead of ranting about a rigged process.

What you may consider "ranting" may just be smart repetitions for those who have yet to listen to him. People are still coming around to hearing what DT has been saying from the start of his Presidential campaign.

Also, about uniting the RNC/GOP/DNC, that has alreday been accomplished prior to Trump's run.

Just read the whole article. Nowhere does Trump threaten to blow up anything. He is quoted, however, as saying he hopes there is NO violence in Cleveland, exactly the opposite of what the title implies.

Another day, another hit job.

The penultimate sentence of the article reads: “The GOP is a private institution whose purpose is to nominate a candidate who can win an election to further party ideals.”

Note the two-part test: 1) be able to win in November, and 2) further party ideals.

Now, I know most Trump supporters think that the GOP no longer has ideals worth mentioning, but that simply indicates that Trump supporters shouldn’t be choosing the GOP candidate, does it not? After all, if your purpose is to change the GOP, why wouldn’t Trump supporters be in heavy attendance at all those state caucuses that Cruz keeps winning handily? Indeed, it’s Cruz who’s trying to drag the GOP back to conservative principles and is doing it quite successfully as caucus after caucus shows conclusively.

I’ve asked this in other forums and never get a sensible answer: Why should people who hate the GOP and its principles have a say in nominating the GOP candidate?

The answer, of course, is that they shouldn’t, which is why Trump will not prevail on the first ballot even if he wins 1237 delegates prior to the convention, and he will almost certainly never prevail on a later ballot.

Trump voters might well cost the GOP the election in November, just as Perot voters might have served to elect Bill Clinton in 1992, but the Perot movement is done and the GOP survived. The same will be true of the Trump movement in time.

Trumps condoning of violence is reason number one why I will never vote for trump. I had to take a bath after voting Romney. I don't think anything could cleanse my soul if I voted for this man. I can see the damage everywhere he's done and the violence he's condoning. I see families split to the point of breaking up, friends no longer talking, people fearful to talk about who they're supporting. He lies all the time, then he yells about splinter lies in others. He's playing a lot of people. Like a carnival con artist, he tells them to look over there while he cheat in front of them. It takes a lot of faith to believe he's not the man he said he was just a year ago.

Trump cult-like supporters have turned from being nice people into haters and conspiracy theory believers. I could start a rumor here and if its pro trump, it would posted as factual. I investigated supposed lies and cheating by Cruz and seen they were written by trump hacks with no factual evidence. Innuendos and theories. Back to my point. People I debated in the past have turned into trump zombies unable to step back and see how trump and the media are manipulating them. They are following their emotions and filled with hate. The walking dead don't know there dead.
