Asked about her experiences learning about LGBT issues at a forum in downtown Manhattan, Chelsea Clinton struck a deeply personal note.

"I think the first time I heard the word 'gay' was when one of my mom's law partners killed himself because he couldn't figure out how to come out to his family," Ms. Clinton said, adding that she was 7 years old at the time.

They say many people kill themselves thinking, "I bet they'll be sorry now!" That law partner killed himself to punish his family and make them feel guilty. All he had to do was say "I'm gay" and face the consequences. Yeah, his family might have disapproved. But instead, he killed himself and sentenced his relatives to a lifetime of sadness. I wonder who found his corpse? That person must have been horribly traumatized.
