Steve Forbes: Obama Ratchets Up War on Private Sector
News Max ^ | 4/14/2016 | R. Williams

President Barack Obama is making sure that his administration spends its last days in power by piling on more rules and regulations on private industry, and Republicans have failed to push back.

That’s the message from publisher Steve Forbes in a magazine editorial published on its website.

“The Obama Administration has let it be known that the White House and the regulatory agencies will be issuing a blizzard of new rules and decrees in the waning months of his miserable regime,” Forbes writes. “These will affect overtime, unionization, the environment and finance, among other areas, thereby hobbling enterprise even more.”

Obama’s bureaucrats last year published a record-setting 82,000 pages of rules in the Federal Register. The right-leaning American Action Forum estimated those regulations cost $197 billion and added 127 million hours of paperwork for private industry.

“Lawlessness has reigned in the issuance of many of these decrees, but the White House remains unbowed, despite occasional setbacks in the courts,” Forbes says. “Even your IRAs aren’t safe, as Washington starts floating the idea that these accounts should be required to hold a certain amount of government bonds. This is another instance of Obama-style socialism: Government control of what you can do with your money is as good as its owning it.”

Forbes recommends that Republicans remind themselves of the perils of big government by looking up Ronald Reagan’s “A Time for Choosing” speech from Oct. 27, 1964, in support of Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater.

It's long past time for Forbes and his billionaire buddies to use their power to back Trump instead of giving financial support to take him down. Trump is effected by these same regulations and restrictions concerning his company. Trump knows that no US business is acting correctly to ship jobs and businesses to foreign countries. When we put the US first everyone wins. Endorsements by Forbes and his other business friends would go a long way to get him into office.

I'm pretty sure his billions weren't earned legally. Maybe his bank accounts should be frozen and seized as evidence

Forbes and Trump have two very different world views. I suspect Forbes and Trump agree on no more than 20% of the issues at stake in any given presidential election.

The fact that Trump calls for tariffs on foreign products as a measure to bring jobs back to the U.S. -- while Forbes explains the regulatory burden that American people and businesses face -- is very telling. Forbes is a well-read, cerebral guy who can explain things very clearly and back it up with plenty of research. Trump is nothing more than and endless stream of campaign slogans.

The Republicans have stood by and done nothing.

Despite being given the majority by the people.

That is why Jebbie Bush is making guacamole at home and Trump is running away with the GOP nomination. The establishment still has parlor tricks up their sleeve to try and deny Trump (and the rank and file voters) but they seem unable to overcome the momentum that Trump has.

New Balance Shoe Company against TPP.

White House tried to shut them up about coming out against this by dangling a pentagon contract for athletic footware.

White house lied and disembled.

TPP would abolish a TARIFF on athletic footware that has been in place forever.

That TARIFF goes away, and kiss those 4 manufacturing plants in Massachusetts and Maine employing 1500 people goodbye.

oh, but but, TARIFFS are bad dontcha know...

And guess what ? If New Balance didn't bother to fight to keep this TARIFF in place, and the manufacturing went to asia, the execs for New Balance wallets would get FATTER due to increased profits.

The GOP pushes back all the time, but you don't hear about it because it doesn't involve issues that attract a lot of media attention.

The first thing to understand is that most of the rules and regulations imposed by the Obama administration are perfectly legitimate under the law. They involve regulations where Congress has given a Federal agency explicit authority to make rules in one area or another.

Perfect case in point ...

The U.S. trucking industry has been fighting a battle with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for years over increasingly burdensome rules that are imposed on the industry. This goes back to the early 2000s, so it's hardly a partisan issue. The FMCSA has the authority to make these rules, as directed by some statute passed by Congress years ago.

Unlike the high-profile situations you read about where various Republicans wring their fists and complain about Obama's "overreach" (that whole charade is just for theater, and is never intended to accomplish anything), the Republican Congress simply dealt with this issue quietly. The budget bill passed by Congress last December had a simple provision that stated very clearly: "Rule XYZ, adopted by the FMCSA on so-and-so date, is hereby null and void."

That was all it took, because there was no way in hell even Barack Obama was going to veto a massive budget bill over a tiny item like this.

When John McCain told the country that we had nothing to fear from Senator Obama, I knew the fix was in.

The repubs never had any intention of stopping the dims.

They either got something for it or were blackmailed.

They may believe that Trump is not a small government, low regulation conservative. Just because you are wealthy doesn’t mean you are that kind of conservative.

Post #11 was excellent. Unfortunately, not enough folks understand the nuances of Congressional delegation of authority and the regulatory state.

Thanks! I work with regulations like this a lot, so maybe I understand these nuances better than the average person.
