Cruz's Relationship with Cornyn Seen as Disconnected
The Texas Tribune ^ | 04/12/16 | Abby Livingston

WASHINGTON — One is a steady 16-year veteran of the U.S. Senate, a well-connected elder in the Grand Old Party. The other is an energetic bomb thrower who in four short years has positioned himself as the only thing standing between the Republican presidential nomination and Donald Trump.

Together, John Cornyn and Ted Cruz represent Texas in the U.S. Senate. That means regularly working together in the best interests of their state.

For years, their detached relationship has been little more than the subject of Capitol Hill gossip. Yet now, with their party at a crossroads and the presidential nomination at stake, Cornyn's and Cruz's fates may be unexpectedly intertwined. Yet the widely held perception in Washington is that the pair are the two same-state senators who least like each other.

But not everyone in the party is behind him. Most noticeably, Cornyn and the vast majority of the U.S. Senate remain unwilling to publicly back Cruz.

Establishment he ain't.

I didn’t send Ted to Washington to make friends with Cornyn, McConnell, Ryan, Obama or Pelosi.

“Cornyn and the vast majority of the U.S. Senate remain unwilling to publicly back Cruz.”

Maybe because they actually know him, having worked with him for years.

>> Establishment he ain’t.

Nope, and that’s to his credit.

Too conservative and constitutional to appease them. ;-)

Nope, they know he’s a phony and a hypocrite, and remember they know him, we only hear what the press wants us to hear.

Neither of these two players are appreciated in TEXAS now.

Cruz couldn’t drag off even 50% in Texas and he won in only one district in all of TEXAS where he could even muster getting all three delegates— his only Amen chorus in the state.

Don’t fall victim to the subterfuge.
Somebody(s) OWNS CRUZ. No matter who it is, he is OWNED.

His debate friends didn't think much of him either. They were debating on the same side.

Krueger, appointed by Clinton, replaced by the infamous Kay Bailey and now Cruz. We here in Texas have no regrets about our freshman Senator.

You yahoos that think he (Cruz) cant be re elected, failing his presidential aspirations know nothing about TX politics.

GopE doesn’t like cruz as a person, but Cruz is eager to steal the nomination fromTrump for GopE. what does that say about cruz’s ambition and character?

Cruz is burning a great deal of bridges.

He won an open seat as a Tea Party guy.

Many of the voters will see that was a sham.

I won't be voting for the phony again.

Amen to that.

Cornyn’s had a cozy time in the Senate and apparently made no enemies. But what has he done?

He doesn’t go along to get along.

He fights for conservative values.

Not quite as comfortable but it’s what we elected him to do.

Cruz knew about the leadership before he even started his campaign for the Senate. As he told it, he found that they expected to co-op him just as they had done Rubio. Rather than wait a year while they tried to court him, he made it clear he was not there to join their club.

He is trying to win the nomination for Cruz. That’s an end around leadership that the Tea Party has been unable to make. Look at what has happened to Tea Party people who have been elected to Congress. Ignored by the Leadership, He avoid that fate.

We have had some odd ones but I don't remember a Gov. Clinton in Texas. You probably meant Richards.
