A 25-year old American woman has spent more than a month in jail in the United Arab Emirates for allegedly 'insulting' the state in public when two men approached her at the airport. The woman, who has not been named, is on trial at the Federal Supreme Court and has been charged with insulting the country and its leaders through verbal assault. On Monday she told the court she had been waiting for a taxi at the Abu Dhabi International Airport when two men approached her and spoke to her in a manner she did not like.

Obviously, you have not been thrown in jail when you were in UAE for refusing to talk to some Muslims in all your global travels.
I have traveled to Islamic countries several times for business reasons. I'm male, which makes a huge difference, but I was alert every instant, careful every second, and regretted the decision to go every time. At least I was smart enough not to bring my wife, and not to go back any more. If bad things had happened, I would have felt as dumb as the guys who say "hold my beer and watch this".
I’ve travelled in Muslim countries for years. Never had a problem. The people were generally polite, respectful and formal. They value and promote mercantilism and are keen to arrangements based upon honor. Some can be almost the exact opposite but those cases are easily identified way in advance.
Women must acknowledge they are 2nd class citizens and act with deference to avoid conflict.
Realize as an American you are accorded great respect and admiration under their values system; having provided the vast majority of their conveniences and wealth. They are old school and give credit according to what benefits them. Act accordingly.
UAE is very simple to understand.
-It is a monarchy.
-Do not insult the monarchy, its property (the country), its subjects (the citizens) or its customs.
This person had no idea where she was. A simple pamphlet, like the type the State Department offers, would have saved her jail time. Guaranteed she’s a leftist because she is ignorant and believes everyone and everyplace is the same.
Let me guess. Youve never been outside merica? Give it a shot. Large parts of the rest of the world are crushing us.
If larges part of the world are crushing us then why is everyone coming here? Not going there?
I’ve traveled outside the states. You’re either delusional or a liar. Either way, your posts are entirely suspect.
Then you have not been to Mexico, Cairo, Turkey or KuwIt City or Africa or numerous places in South America and the Far East.
Anyplace where you have no rights is in and of itself a scary place, let alone the violence.
I guess it’s like a foreign College course where they teach you the difference between microaggression and real aggression. Wonder how much it will cost her?
Ha. Resorting to name calling. Very sophmoric. Amusing.
I have no reason to lie on these boards.
Note the quality of people coming here - and the quality of people the US government does not allow in. Not difficult to see we are being Third World-ized by design.
I have to agree with airplaneguy - it's getting to be that the scariest part of world travel these days is coming back to LAX.
Everyone is not coming here. The United states is only 5% or so of the world’s population. With about 10% of the world’s land mass. Other nations are having immigration problems too if that’s what you mean. Some other nations are crushing us. Lok at taiwan. Teeangers all speak multiple languages and do higher level math by 15 or 16. Theres a reason so much high tech and outsourcing happens in asia.
Thanks for defending me. It’s difficult to hear that our nation isn’t the best at everything hence the attacks by other posters.
Emirates is one of the largest airlines in the world. A lot of people connect flights there with no problems. I am thinking she said something she isn’t owning up to.
As an old middle east hand I say the stupid twit has earned all the shi’ite she gets...
