Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has described as "rigged" the way the US state of Colorado picks its presidential nominee.
His rival Ted Cruz swept the board in that state, where delegates are selected by senior party activists.
Mr Trump is still well ahead in the Republican race but if he does not get 1,237 delegates in the state-by-state contests, he could lose out anyway.
A winner could well emerge from a contested convention in July.
In that scenario, many of the delegates can back who they want to after the first ballot, opening the door for Texas Senator Mr Cruz or even the third candidate in the race, John Kasich.

Leave it to the BBC to get it completely wrong. The delegates are selected by party activists, but largely by the grassroots activists.
Trump is running a LOW ENERGY CAMPAIGN with his inept campaign staff. What the hell does he think is going to be required for the November general election WITH ALL 50 STATES GOING AT ONCE.

Yes it is rigged and it’s favoring Trump. He only has about 37% of the vote, but he has 45% of the delegates! Trump needs to release those extra delegates and give them to the candidate that people voted for. This is an outrage.
Its a problem that only a few Trump supporters on this site are willing to admit. Trump better hit it hard, it is getting very late to organize it for the national election.

He's trying to win on the fact that he's running on his own dime without spending a dime.
Trump has told us he’s rich, really rich. What good did his money do him or any of us if he didn’t use it to buy some expertise. You can’t get through an election on the cheap. The general election isn’t going to be a walk in the park where a hapless candidate can tweet his way into the White House, no matter how popular he is.
I’m a Cruz supporter willing to vote for Trump to keep a Democrat out of the White House; but if Trump goes third party, I won’t be voting for him. Third party candidates cannot win after splitting the party from which they originated.
Trump lost Colorado primarily because he didn’t know the rules and didn’t prepare to participate.
Success requires planning and preparation, but the Trump campaign is all about personality.
And this is the guy who is going to fix our problems.
Why wait to start an independent candidacy? Because, just like Colorado, there are processes and rules and all that other annoying stuff to get through, and Trump hasn’t done it. It’s too late to get on the ballot.
So he can’t win third-party, and Trump is all about winning, remember? Except when he doesn’t, and that’s when he whines and pouts.
Short on specifics, full of platitudes, and all about him.
Why not just elect Hillary now? Why wait?
An independent run by either Trump or some GOP substitute (as Ben Sasse has threatened) only guarantees the Democrats of victory - and NO they are not the same. I, for one, would rather have Romney, Ryan, McLame, Grahmnesty, or almost any other RINO before Hillary. I really think that had Romney won, things would be much better than with Obama. Now, I am not advocating for any RINO - but I don't like Trump or Cruz, so I am going to have to hold my nose in November anyway.
That said, if Trump is going to play the game, he needs to know the rules. If I were going against him in a real estate deal and he used one of the many "tricks" that I am sure he has learned over the years to beat me, should I should "no fair" like a 12-year-old? The rules around selection of delegates have been around for years.
As I keep saying - if Trump can't make a deal to win the nomination (either by getting enough delegates or by working with some other person), then how is he going to make deals with Mexico, China, Japan, etc.? Is the Republican party tougher than Putin?

If somebody else other than Trump wins the nomination, most Trump supporters will either sit it out or will vote for the Dem.
It, in my opinion, is better to have a primary to determine who gets the delegates rather than having a few people shove a candidate down the electorate's throat.
I often think about this: I grew up during the 30's 40's and early 50's. How much the country has changed in those 70+ years. Imagine what the USA will look like 70 years from now. The concept is too frightening to dwell on. If my grandfather, who died in early 1941 was alive today,he'd be a revolutionary. Guarandamntee you.
No one planned for Jeb to be sidelined, but Trump did it anyway.
So Jeb dropped out.
Since he has suspended his campaign, they needed an insider to be a place holder for the delegates and that turns out to be Cruz, who will control those delegates until the Convention, then, after a few slight of hand tricks, they are slated to go back to Jeb, or maybe Mitt.
Cruz will never get to enjoy the delegates at the convention.
