Trump claims $102 million charitable donations over last 5 years, but gave no personal cash
American Thinker ^ | 04/11/2016 | Thomas Lifson

In a lengthy analysis of data provided by the Trump campaign, Washington Post writers David A. Fahrenthold and  Rosalind S. Heiderman find that claimed charitable contributions by Donald Trump included no actual cash from his personal funds.

Since the first day of his presidential campaign, Donald Trump has said that he gave more than $102 million to charity in the past five years.

To back up that claim, Trump’s campaign compiled a list of his contributions — 4,844 of them, filling 93 pages.

But, in that massive list, one thing was missing.

Not a single one of those donations was actually a personal gift of Trump’s own money.

Instead, according to a Washington Post analysis, many of the gifts that Trump cited to prove his generosity were free rounds of golf, given away by his courses for charity auctions and raffles.

Another substantial source of charitable deductions was “land-conservation agreements to forgo development rights on property Trump owns.”

Both of these categories of charity are entirely legitimate. But they do not involve taking money out of a bank and giving to others. Instead, they forego opportunities to make money in the future, and generate tax deductions today.

Additionally, the $102 million figure includes donations by the Donald J. Trump Foundation, but as the reporters show, funding for that foundation has, in recent years, come from others.

No, that Trump himself didn’t make any charitable contributions.

Who in the hell owns all those golf courses, that gave up INCOME=CASH=TRUMP'S MONEY, that would have been earned?

You small thinkers believe that reaching in your pocket and giving your fiver each week to the Church is the only "real" way to make charitable contributions.

Trump himself!!! You are a pea brain.

Giving away land is giving away money. He wouldn’t have purchased inferior properties.

That is a pretty impressive list of secular non-profits. Even the “Gay Men’s Issues” donation.

Anyone remember slick willy and the hildabeast deducting $10 apiece, on their taxes, for his donated used underwear?
I remember and IIRC, his VP - algore - donated less than 1% of his income to charity.

I hear that, a number of years ago, Trump left the toilet seat up once; causing a very awkward experience for Marla.

Having some experience in Funds Development I can assure you that when you are dealing with the likes of the wealthy such as Trump you are looking for donations from the money they “control.”

When you are fundraising for a foundation or hospital or something like that you put the touch on some community money leader like Trump to help lead the charge. If others see him donating a couple hundred thousand to your cause, they will match it or give more than they would.

Fundraisers would “use” Trump as their matching funds source. He commits to $100,000k matched. He is going to give you the total, and you use HIM to get a matched amount.

Quite frankly, you do not care if it comes on a Donald Trump letter head or a Trump Inc. letterhead.

But the average Joe has no idea how this stuff works.

It is a worse to give to 'gay men' than to receive from 'gay men'... Just trying to figure out Cruz's rules.

Whether it came from his foundation or his “personal” money - its all money he earned and created himself, is it not?

Not really. From 2009 to 2014 all the funding for the Trump Foundation came from others - he contributed NOTHING to it. From the info in the article:

Additionally, the $102 million figure includes donations by the Donald J. Trump Foundation, but as the reporters show, funding for that foundation has, in recent years, come from others.

” .... included no actual cash from his personal funds.”

This is just one big stupid hit piece. What difference does it make? He gave from his wealth. That’s what matters.

And what did Teddy the Anointed donate, 2%. Hell, I’m on a fixed income and I donate more than that.

“What does this prove? that Trump donated money the most tax-efficient way? Who doesn’t do that? Whether it came from his foundation or his “personal” money - its all money he earned and created himself, is it not?”

Well, no, many people write checks to charities. Giving out a free round of golf on a course is tantamount to taking credit for letting birds live in the tree in your back yard. If you claim to have given millions to charity, but the reality is that your coporate entities have given to charity and you gave nothing...you should say “my companies have donated...” just in the interseet of honesty. I thought the Trump popularity was all about honesty? This was pretty cheap. This doesn’t mean he isn’t worthy of leading, but it does mean that there is still parsing that we constantly have to listen to.

Let’s be honest...this claim that has been relentlessly made “I give millions to...” is bullshit. The companies did. Say so and take the credit that you should. I hate that we get so wound up in backing people we constantly excuse this kind of horse shit. Where does it end?

I for one, expect better.

And the average Cruzer cares not one bit. They are just hear to smear Trump. Never mind their candidate made millions and gave basically nothing to charity while portraying himself as a pious Christian.

He’s a generous guy, no question about it. Positive impacts on so many lives. Cares enough about the country to put his own life on hold and get us back on track.

God Bless you Donald Trump!

RE: Your nothing burgers are becoming stale.

I really find this to be amusing. This is a matter-of-fact report, nothing more, yet, Trumpettes are acting as if this is an attack on him ( and by extension on his supporters ). Tsk Tsk.

I don’t know.... I guess if you’re running for political office and people give you money maybe you take it? Maybe you don’t? It would certainly make news if you don’t take it from some gay organization. Is that different than donating money to a gay organization, when you aren’t running for an office....just because? I dunno....
