Pastors feel exposed without religious freedom law
Dalton Daily Citizen ^ | 3/4/16 | Jill Nolin

ATLANTA — The Rev. Wayne Cofield says he’ll sit in a jail cell before he presides over a same-sex wedding.

He would rather have the state’s legal protection in light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that gays and lesbians can marry. But, he said, he will follow his convictions.

“I would never — no matter what it cost — perform a same-sex marriage. Never,” said Cofield, pastor at Whitfield Baptist Church in Dalton.

While it seems unlikely that Cofield will end up in handcuffs — or that a gay couple would ask him to officiate at their wedding — he and other religious conservatives say they no longer feel safe to express and act on their convictions.

Virginia’s Dem Governor, Terry McAuliffe, just vetoed a similar bill. I have yet to hear if it will be over-ridden or not.

“The Rev. Wayne Cofield says he’ll sit in a jail cell before he presides over a same-sex wedding.”

Did not Justice Kennedy specifically say that that could not happen with his ruling?

A homo marriage is a secular union. Let them marry at the courthouse. A church is not a requirement for such a union. The 1st amendment is the “Religious Freedom” law.

I thought the First Amendment guaranteed religious freedom.

I thought the First Amendment guaranteed religious freedom.

Sadly, in the end it takes more than words on paper to guarantee anything.

The article lost me right there. Queers LIVE for hunting down unwilling citizens like that so that they can sue them.

Its interesting that Americans have always been able to conflate America! with basic decency, that you could be an American! and a basically decent human being.

A cancer has taken hold and all that is changing. We used to wonder how Germany went crazy and meanwhile we watch while our country is going crazy all around us.

You kidding? Everything a homoFascist says is with a wink and a nod, and Kennedy is no exception. After all, he penned the Lawrence decision in which he specifically said that decriminalizing homosexual conduct would NOT mandate same-sex "marriage."

We now have a FORCED “Vice System” which is antithetical to the US Constitution.

We removed “Right Reason” from “Just” (virtuous/lol) Law and are forcing Satanism/paganism on US children. YES—WE are ALWAYS forcing a WORLDVIEW through a “Law”-—and NOW we flipped “Good and Evil”-—removed “Justice” (the Queen of Virtue) and installed Satanism where you can use other humans in degrading, evil, filthy ways (as a “means to an end”) and it is “Good”-—just as Slavery is under Satanism.

So—of course, all men of virtue should be concerned and fear for their lives. Satanists will kill and abuse anyone....because people are commodities in their “religion”.

As Montesquieu stated, and the Founders, all Just Law promotes “public virtue” always. But we have a Vice System now.

This also is in the Bible. We are very near the end! Maranatha!

Luke 21
10 Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
11 “And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences;
and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.
12 “But before all these things,
they will lay their hands on you and persecute you,
delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons.
You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake.
13 “But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony.
14 “Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer;
15 “for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.
16 “You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends;
and they will put some of you to death.
17 “And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake.
18 “But not a hair of your head shall be lost.
19 “By your patience possess your souls.

I was merely pointing out the flagrancy of the situation, not that I thought anyone should actually have faith in what leftists say.

In today’s world, discrimination based on “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” and “LGBT” status, is considered the same as racial discrimination.

I have heard, don’t remember details, that a church somewhere was sued over an issue of racial discrimination, and lost its tax exempt status with the IRS,

I searched and couldn’t find details of that, but have heard that there was such as case. Just saying, if there indeed is a legal precedent regarding religion and racial discrimination, it’s not a stretch to see religions sued over “LGBT” matters.

While it seems unlikely that Cofield will end up in handcuffs — or that a gay couple would ask him to officiate at their wedding . . .

Common sense would suggest that a gay couple would not want someone who thinks their relationship is an abomination to perform the ceremony for their so-called "wedding", but common sense does not apply with the gay mafia. The predators are probably already searching for a sufficiently photogenic and articulate pair to stage a provocation with this good man. The goal is to create problems, and I have no doubt the activists will succeed. I will pray for this future victim.

Pastors are part of the problem IMHO. A number are content to stay out of the political spectrum for fear of losing the tax exempt status of the church.

So to a degree they're serving mammon over God by not speaking out when they should.

I also blame church members. At the church I attend a lot of people don't won't to "deal with politics" on a Sunday. I've got news for them.

If you won't deal with the politics, it will deal with you.
