MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Thousands of Mississippians receiving food stamp benefits no longer qualify for them under new government requirements.

The new policy requires that single people between the ages of 18 and 49 who are able to work put in at least 20 or more hours on the job, volunteer, or enroll in a job-training program. While many folks admit they are not happy about this change, Food banks are bracing for the large number of low income families in need.

"I thought it was rude and mean," said Mary Riley Walker.

"You say if we don't have job you are going to take our food stamps, but if we get a job you are still going to cut our food stamps," said a snap recipient.

These two Jackson women who receive Snap Benefits didn't hold back their anger when talking about the new policy that went into effect April 1st.

I think the message is that there is no shame in any job, so go find or make your own job rather than be a burden to society, especially when younger.

In my county about 20% are on food stamps. You can apply for it online just by answering ‘questions’. I honestly don’t believe those in charge of giving the go-ahead checks any of it out. That’s why I see brood mares with great clothes with shopping carts full of food going out to a new car.

Do the Feds pay for or subsidize Food Stamps/EMT? It should be ENTIRELY up to the individual States.

Uh, Yes! If you are able to get off your butt, get off your butt and off the taxpayer dole.

They refer to them as “our Foodstamps.” I just paid my Federal tax bill. I paid for those Foodstamps. They are not “yours.” And I want some sanity brought back into this program.

IMHO the real message here is:

“What the government gives, the government can take away. Often without any warning.”

Welfare programs like snap are supposed to be a hand up, not a hand out. Whether she knows it or not, the program is designed among other things, to keep her from going hungry while she seeks training or employment. The goal is to turn her into an employed, self-supporting citizen instead of a useless consumer of other peoples taxes and a burden on society.

If she has a job, she will not need (as much, anyway) public assistance. The goal is to encourage her to work her way off of public assistance, and if she's not willing to do that, there's no reason that anybody's taxes should go to pay for her parasitic life style.

Lol - if they are able-bodied and don't have dependents, what exactly are they doing all day?

Can't find a job? No problem, there are community service and training alternatives.

The bottom line is that most of the ones in this category are frauds. In Maine it was 80% - http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2016/02/maine-food-stamp-work-requirement-cuts-non-parent-caseload-by-80-percent

It's mostly funded by the fed, but states do kick in. It's managed by the states, however. The money flows from the feds to the states, and the states must monitor it.

IBM recently offered up statistical software to help the government at both levels root out fraud and corruption. It was offered free of charge. It was rejected.

Right.

They think being lazy and on the dole IS their job.

And spitting out future welfare recipients.

This might sound like a good step, but the democrats guaranteed that there are enough loopholes in this requirement to drive a truck through. For instance you don’t have to meet the work requirement if you demonstrate you are trying to find work but can’t, you just have to submit a list of three places you applied that rejected you, there have already been stories of welfare case workers telling people which businesses are NOT hiring so they can quickly and easily meet the three rejection rule.

We receive occasional calls from people asking if we are hiring. Always just tell them to fax their resume and give them fax number. Have yet to receive any resumes.

Sort of like unemployment insurance.

When I got out of the military, I applied for it and had to meet once a week with a person to verify my attempts at finding a job.

Now all you need to do is go online and answer a few questions.

How does this make sense, considering what liberals tell us??

We are told that Obama has expanded programs such as SNAP. Then again we’re told we can’t call Obama the food stamp president; that’s racist or insulting or something.....

Then again, we are told that the economy is doing so well, and that the unemployment rate is below 5% now, and things are wonderful.

We are told a lot of things about our economy and about Obama, which seem to contradict this story. Charitable food banks bracing for increased demand??? Really??? In the era of Obama, a time of a growing economy, healthcare for all via Obamacare, etc. etc. ???? What the heck???

Related to that, how many of these girls are married to their “baby daddy”??? This is part of the bad social change, in which we have institutionalized illegitimacy.
